I'm going to try a set of copper s/t 285's on next week.I'll have them put it on the hoist and see if we can turn the wheel and work the front suspension through it's range of motion to see if they rub.
Does toyota offer a stiffer factory spring that might give an 1"-1 1/2" of lift??

thanks
With what you paid for options are you sure you want to go there?

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Sorry, stock tires were traded in. They true height difference on the 17x7.5 rim is actually closer to 1.5" not the 1.1" as per the tires specs. I assume the rim squeezes the tire just slightly.

I will try and get pics .... first I need to figure out how to post them.

the factory tires stand about 32" tall, so i seriously doubt there would be need of any kind of lift, at most maybe 1".
Exactly! A 33" tire is really only 1/2" bigger all around since they are mounted from the center (assuming actual not nominal dimensions).

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

I traded the tires in a at a local tire shop and they gave me a reasonable credit.

Hi,

I took delivery this morning and had BFG AT 285/70 17 installed an hour later. They fit, even on the rear door! It is very tight and full lock under compression may rub against the plastic inner fender flange (there is metal behind it). I will trail test it in the next few weeks and decide if it needs a lift....max 1" if at all.

The stock tires made the FJ drive like our Touareg, with the BFG's it feels like it should... a little firm, a little wiggly, but nothing scary. FJ far exceeds my expectations.

Best,
Paul

Hey, Congrats on the FJ! I wanted to find out from you if you noticed that there is still space on the rear for 33's. I know you installed the 285's so I am going to need an extra half an inch or so. I am crossing my fingers that this can be done...otherwise, Ill have to do something about those bumpers. So, do you think that the 33's will fit? Thanks again!
