Thanks. You would be fine with the Wrangler MT/R (275/70/17). Great tire, especially if you are not winter driving.
Thanks! Any idea how they do on wet roads? I have been planning on going with 265/70R17 Nitto Terra Grapplers

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

So, I cant put a lift on her because of garage clearance..so, need some advice...BFG A/T 265/70-17, or a Goodyear Wrangler A/T 275/70-17???? Going to be using as both my comuter car and for a lot of off road camping in New Mexico.

FWIW - If there was a 275/70 17 AT I would jump immediately. I bet the Wrangler MT/R would be perfect... but I highway drive to the cottage every weekend and my family would not be thrilled with the noise.
I had the 285 M/TR 's on my Rubicon and, to tell the truth, the road noise was not that bad...even with the rag top. I was chewing over the thought of putting them on the FJ...just not the 285's....until I lift her.

ick.

Tough call. The MT/R's are very good in the wet for what they are... not siped so you will give up some wet traction. You should nose around a TJ forum and get some feedback from the rubicon drivers.

The terra grapplers are used by a few Toureg owners and they love them.

Alternatively look at the Bridgestone A/T Revo's 265/70. Fantastic tire on road, in the wet and commendable off road.

lots of options if you stick to the 265/70.

ick.

I found they got noisey after the first 1/3rd wore out. Also they began to slip a little on wet roads. Not dangerously, more of an inconvenience... fast starts were slippery.

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Thats a little tight fit for my comfort.. 1" spacer would probably fix it though

Does the rear window work ok with the new tire ? I have a good fix Idea for the rubbing........................Donahue coilover shocks.............Looks nice ! Like the size differance ,A little bigger but not enough to mess with the gearing...Hows the ride with the AT's compared to the stock tires ?

oldawg - the rear window opens ... no need for a spacer. Also, I did get a small rub (as expected) when the wheels were full lock going over a moderate bump abrading the plastic on the 3 inch flange covering the body mount. Since I really do not want to give up the 285's and go back to 265's, I will be looking for something to raise the front 1 inch. The tires ride great, there is a little slop in the steering wheel but that should be expected when the tires are 25lbs heavier and 1.5 inches wider than stock.

I agree never look back right...Look into the Donahue coil over shocks thay are adjustable up to 3" , I'm a little iffy on the Revtek kit as it is mostly spacers witch will put allot of strain on your system. Check in with one of the Taco or 4 runner forums see what everyone there is running...
