Just want to double check on BMC and 285/70/17s

Hey all. Newbie and about to get my 2007 FJ a Body Mount Chop tomorrow so I can get some new tires, preferably the BFG AT at 285/70/17.

Just for my own peace of mind, can someone confirm that a stock FJ with stock wheels and a BMC can run the 285s ok?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

if you get a BMC heck yes.

you should get the tires before the BMC. You might not need the chop...Im running duratracs and there is an ever so slight rub at full lock. nothing worth getting a bmc over.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to get the BMC tomorrow, cause the price is right and I plan on going bigger eventually. Scheduling the tire installation for Sunday. So psyched!

Post up pictures when you get them on.

Fwiw you might be able to get enough caster adjustment out of it you wouldn't have to chop the body mount. However, if you want larger tires in the future might as well do it.

Yeah you most certainly dont need the chop for those tires with proper alignment, but it will be good to have later if you go bigger, or even add spacers

Did you like the job done on your BMC? Did your mechanic dress the cut afterward? New tires look good! Let the mods begin.

I'm running a set of 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country A/T II with NO BCM. I have no rub, even off roading, but I also haven't done any serious, hardcore trails yet.
