Wheel sizes?? How big w/o lift.

OK, so I think I'm gonna put on the Donahoe Racing Suspension kit, but since I live in NYC, I won't be lifting and I prefer not to trim or change bumper, etc. What's the biggest tire I can get on there using stock 17"'s?

I've searched, but it seems like as often as this comes up, people are always lifting or trimming, etc.

Well I believe you'll really enjoy those donahoes. but onto your question. I think you'll find the consensus here is 285-70/17's will be the biggest without trim or any issues. You can search high and low, but some have found success with that size without trimming others have not.

Good luck!

+1 that size tire should fit with the stock wheels... you might get into trouble with an aftermarket wheel depending on its width and backspacing...

Re: Wheel sizes?? How big w/o lift.

This past weekend I mounted 275/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's on my BBS rims. No worries what so ever and they look freakin' great!!! I would say 275 is the limit if you do not want to install a lift or do any mods. I will post pics soon. Good luck!

I tried to get ahead of the game and got fitted for 285/70/17's (BFG KO's)today but they rubbed on the frame right behind the wheel. The Donahoe's are in the mail as we speak; is that gonna alleviate the problem?

Re: Wheel sizes?? How big w/o lift.

I don't understand why people here get some problem with 275 or even 285 because I just finish a test with a MTZ 33 12.5 /17 (305/65/R17) on stock alloy!!!!

They rub on the plastic protector of the body mount only if I remove it, no rub on the frame or UCA???

I believe if you change the wheel for another size (more then 7.5” rim) and backspace (<> 4.5”) or add spacers it will generate body mount problem.

For lift, I conclude that a 2" lift on front don't make a big difference because of lot of reasons.

To be sure of what I told you here, let me test the setup and I will post my final test result in 2-3 week.

This depends on the tires you put on is what I found. I have read that the Nitto's at 285's do not rub without a lift or any cutting. You "might" have to trim some plastic, but tha'ts nothing. I have 285's on order and I'm not lifting based on what I read here, so I hope they don't rub

Now for the real deal...they do rub and now I have to lift my FJ. I treid to get them installed today, and no go...too much rub.

I was installing the MM 951's with Nitto 285's...

Re: Wheel sizes?? How big w/o lift.

Prior to lifting, I was running 285/70/17 Hankook Dynapro MT on stockers. Minor rubbing on the plastics covering the body mount. Now that it's lifted, no rubbing at all. However, I still plan on doing the body mount chop.
