Got my steelies on
take-offs from a wheel shop in Kalifornistan. Finally got my black Gorilla lug nuts, and mounted and balanced the Toyo's from my stock alloys today. The steelies are a lot heavier than the alloys but I like them. Now I've got the only FJC in north Texas (that I know of) with steelies since I've never seen anything from Gulf States Toyota with them.

Looks great! Do you have lift? If so what type? Are the Toyos 295 or 285?

Jim_D and I have had them a while now, but it still looks good. I painted mine grey recently; however, they started out black. Congrats and welcome to the club, I like it.

They are a few pounds heavier, alloy is always lighter than steel. Steel wheel are almost never perfectly balanced and sometimes are not completely round. They are stamped rather than forged like alloys.

1911-
I like the look of your steelies with the black lugs. Although that look is not for me as I like the contrast, but no matter really. YOur steelies are shinier than mine. But I'm sure that will change soon.
I was surprised to hear your discussion on the weight. I did not notice it all that much between my alloys and steelies. I have both wheel sets. Anyway, the OEM alloys aren't that light anyhow since they are cast aluminum. Had they been forged aluminum, they'd feel noticeably lighter than the steelies...even with the rubber mounted.
I bet someone will disagree with me on the OEM alloys being cast v. forged, but since I have 'em bare and in the garage attack, I can clearly see and feel that they are cast. But still I could be wrong, as my only experience with forged aluminum wheels are motorcycle wheels and in that arena there is a clear difference between forged and cast...especially in the weight department.
You took the words right out of my mouth; although, technically yours should carry an asterisk.
Jim
*I was once an OEM steelie but now I've been transfigured into a much more aesthetically pleasing extension of my owner's vision of what a color coordinated wheel/tire ensem should look like; although in no way should my current appearance be taken as a reflection of my owner's sexual orientation (not that there's anything wrong with that).

My back could tell the difference hefting them back on, especially the spare - but I'm an old man.
