Buying Wheels and Tires

Okay so I'm ready to buy my off road set of rims and tires. I am planning on buying some tierra grapplers (295/70/17) for my stock alloys.... but I want a set of M/T for off road use. I want either AR Teflon chambers or thugs (but I heard they might not work for the FJs).... I want 16 in rims and at least a 295 or 305 tire... any recommendations. I have a 3 inch lift.

Whatever wheel you go with, just remember to pick up some ET lug nuts (these are the acorn lugs but they have about a 1/4" lip on the lug nut for a few extra turns). For some reason, toyota lugs are very short and when you put the regular acorn lugs on your aftermarket wheels such as the AR chamber or thugs, you are down to maybe 4.5 to 5 turns on the lug nut. I have the ProComp 7089 and was even looking into getting longer lug bolts installed until someone told me about the ET lugs which helped so much. Now i get about 10 full turns on the lug nut to tighten. Fells a lot better.

I'm having the same problem with the same wheels. Good lookin out on the ET lug nuts. I'm going to pick some up.

Re: Buying Wheels and Tires

Why buy 2 sets of tires when you can buy 1. Yotachick is running the thug wheels on her fj , don't know if she got 16's or 17's .

Re: Buying Wheels and Tires

I have only found the ET style in chrome

I have the AR Teflon chambers that are black and it looks bad with chrome lugs

Any idea's on how to get them black - what paint I should use ect. so I get minimal flaking

or has anyone seen them in black ??

Re: Buying Wheels and Tires

You are in the same boat I am in right now. I am going with the 16/8 chambers with a set of nitto Terra Grapplers 305/70/16. Just to give you a heads up American Racing is telling me the 16's will not fit. I have seen them on other FJ's here and my local store is getting them for me on my word that they are going to fit. The other thing I am finding is depending on where you order them from I have been told there is up to a 4 month back order. My shop told me 3 days for them so look around if you are told they are on back order.
Good Luck
Richie

Re: Buying Wheels and Tires

The 16 inch do fit quite well

They are on my rig right now

As far as the lugs - If you use the ET style lugs it is perfect - I had a slight vibration using the tuner lugs and now with the ET style it is gone

Actually looking at them now and the chrome lugs are not that bad - You just can see the tops of them - I am running without the center caps as well

I really like they way they look
