Possible Balance Issue

Ok after putting on my new rims I noticed I was getting a wheel balance issue when i hit 50mph and then it would stop just over 60 mph. I took it in to get rebalanced and it continued to do the same thing. I am running American Eagle Series 1378, 17 x 8, offset -4mm and BS 4.25. I switched out tires a day later and still had the same balance problem. A few days later I got my OME lift installed and a day later the allignment done. After the allignment everything was fine. For some reason it fixed my balance issue. While heading back home I noticed the front tire was leaking air. I took it to the same place I got my tires from and they noticed a slight pin hole. They replaced the tire and once again I have a balance issue at 50 mph until just after 60mph. What could be causing this? I went back and had the tires balanced again and doesn't seem to work. I would hate to take it back to the dealer and have them allign it again. Oh, the balance issue is the steering wheel is doing the quick movement left and right at those speeds. I'm not getting any pull to the left or right. Thanks for any info.

Same problem here. I've managed to get it balanced enough times to where it is not too bad though. Yes, the alignment helped too.

I believe I've narrowed it down to the hub centric's of the wheels. Or lack of it actually. The stock wheels were hub centric. The aftermarket ones are NOT. They are lug centric. This means, each time the wheel is removed and reinstalled it is different and not centered on the hub. Non hubcentric wheels can also move, just slightly, when installed and while driving. This causes havoc when trying to nail down the problem with balancing.

I am ordering custom made hub centric rings for my Moto Metals. Hopefully this should cure any residual shaking left over. I'll post once it is completed, unless you beat me to it?

I'm taking it in saturday to move the front tires to the back see if that works. If not I'm getting them balanced on all 4 tires and if that doesn't work will try what you are mentioning. I'm guessing you are probably right since it is acting the way it does. I was even going to try and put the stock rims back on the tires I just got to see if that works and if so then I know it is the rims. I was also told the new jeeps are having the same problem and the cause of theirs is the caster arm in the steering. Have no clue on this and asked toyota about it. They told me that they can't see the caster arm doing that. But then again they said the allignment shouldn't have fixed a balance issue.

Re: Possible Balance Issue

Called the guy who put on my lift and he agreed it could be what you said. Told me Chevi has that problem and he had some of the centric rings around his shop that might work. If not I will try ordering some for mine. Hopefully that will work.

Where are you getting them at & for how much? I might need to do the same IF the new wheels are doing the same thing as your issue. Thx!

Here is one place that has allot of choices "premade". I'm also looking into another company that can make them any which way you want.

Wheel Hub Centric Rings - buy wheel hub rings online from 1010tires.com

Re: Possible Balance Issue

Ordered my hub centric rings today. Ended up putting the stock wheels back on and the balance issue went away. Now I need to deal with an allignment issue. Had the toyota dealer do the allignment after the ome lift and my steering wheel is turned slightly right and pulls to the right now. They told me everything was in the green on the allignment and they don't know what else to do. Will probably go to someone else and make toyota pay for it.

Thx for the info! Can you confirm the FJ's hub size is 108mm?

Re: Possible Balance Issue

dunno if this helps, and i haven't tried it on any vehicle but i know that a lot of people in the jeep community throw a bunch of BBs inside the tire and supposedly that balances the whole thing as you drive. The spinning of the wheel makes the BBs fly to whereever they need to be. Apparenlty that way it also doesn't matter how much mud or snow you get suck in your rims. the tire will balance itself.

anybody on here have experince with this or know more about it?
