What is the best or biggest tire size on a 16x8 wheel? No lift, no cutting, no rub etc... Just a stock Cruiser. The TRD model runs a BFG 285x75x16 stock? Shouldn't this work for my FJ?

Thanks, J
Stock tires are 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 depending on the wheel option you pick.
Best or biggest? I thing best is 255/85/16, others have their opinion of "best".
Biggest? Some have reported running 285's without rubbing and some report rubbing. It all depends on the manufacture of the tires and the tread pattern. More aggressive treads "tend" to rub more than street tires.
Take the time to search through the tire and wheel thread and you will find many options to pick from as well as the opinions as to which tire is "best" and "biggest".

The "best" tire is a question of what you want it to do! There is no tire which does everything the best. They're either better on the road or better on rocks, or better in mud... what do you want your tire to do?
I have 285/75/16 BFG AT and my driverside rubbed. I choped the mount so no issues. And like the others of said "the best tire" is mostly personaly prefrance and what you it will be used for.

The stock tire on the regular FJ is 265/70R17. If you go to a 16" wheel, a 265/75R16 will be the same width and overall diameter. You should not have any rubbing on a stock FJ with either of these wheel/tire combos.
A 275/70R17 size tire will also fit and I've not heard any reports of rubbing with this size tire. You have limited choices though - the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor is the only AT tire I am aware of in this size. It's supposed to be a good tire though if that's the way you want to go. I am not aware of any 275/75R16 sizes, but they could be out there.
If you go to a 285/70R17 or 285/75R16 I think you run the risk of rubbing - seems like most people report that these tire sizes rub on their body mounts under some conditions even if lifted, but there are exceptions.
Someone with a TRD will need to confirm, but I thought the TRD came with 265/75R16's.
The FJ Cruiser TRD SE comes with "grey" 265/75/16's...

I only ever noticed my 285/70-R17 BFG ATs rubbing once in the several weeks between putting them on and getting my lift put on, and the rub was very brief (less than a second).
