Life expectancy of stock tires?

It seems we all agree that the stock rubber on our FJs are a joke. Do any of you guys know what their expectancy is? I am tempted to trade them on some decent rubber, but might run them until they're worn out then do it. How long is that likely to be? I've been offered $40/tire by my tire shop. Does that sound about right?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Re: Life expectancy of stock tires?

I went to Discount Tire, I got $60 a tire but they only had 25 miles on them.

Re: Life expectancy of stock tires?

When I first got the truck Mrs. 5150 told me that, from her experience, most Factory Toyota Tires wear out in 20,000 - 25,000 miles, so I expected significant wear. I just hit 9,000 and the tread still looked great. Like you, I was going to wait to upgrade but the Bridgestone HT's didn't look like they were wearing much at all. So, I took the plunge, bought BFG AT's, and sold the stockies for 40 a piece this morning.

Re: Life expectancy of stock tires?

Thanks for the info guys. I might see if I can get some decent used rubber for it- last time I got a quote for 5 new ones, it was going to be over $600 including trades!

How much did you have to fork out, including trade?

Re: Life expectancy of stock tires?

Well, at 16,600 miles my stock tires still have way too much tread. I'm expecting to make it through summer, then upgrade, unless I come up with some unexpected cash. (My wife's 4Runner needs tires real soon, and my checking account just can't take 2-sets of tires in the same month.)

Re: Life expectancy of stock tires?

I have 15,600 miles on mine and they are showing some decent wear, but its not comming fast enough. They will probably last 25-30k sadly

I didn't trade-em' in Chef. I paid $172.00 per tire, for the BFG's, from Tire Rack and I sold the Bridgestones myself by placing an ad in the paper.

Re: Life expectancy of stock tires?

Yeah, I noticed that the tires on my mini diecast FJ (received yesterday) were better than the ones on the real FJ, whah.
