Question Revos and Balancing?

Hey all those with Revo's?

You guys/gals having trouble getting them balanced correctly?

I have the revos in the same 265R17. I have found that Discount Tire can never get them balanced correctly. After just getting them balanced last week, they seem worse than ever this time. My FJ has 12k miles on it since last August.

Anyway, took it to toyo dealer today to see if they could do any better. They of course mentioned the TSB & then basically said that the tires were too heavy - coming in at 10 pounds & 11 pounds on the front & 14 & 13 pounds on the rear. The max for all is supposed to be 29 pounds with only 6 & 6 on the front. Their recommendation - switch out for some high end revo's lower profile & less off-road look & capabilities (although I too do not get off road like I wish).

Just wondering if you have had the same issues with your revo's as I have... ??

Any suggestions? Yes I had the toyo dealer Road Force them. They still could only get it down to 10 & 11 on the front after working on it for about 2 hours ...

Re: Revos and Balancing?

Ohfergodsake.

I've had my REVOs on for 17K now--- bought them at the 4 for the price
of 3 sale at the local Firestone dealer.

They were then and remain now (after that many miles and NO balance
or alignment work) among the smoothest, straightest, tires I've had on
any car, any place any time.

Stock size on the stock alloys, by the way.

Somebody's trying to cover for inadequacies in their personnel or their
equipment.

Re: Revos and Balancing?

Have the same size Revos for about 6K miles with no problems. Just basic balancing. Could just be the tire...I've had some (pick a brand) in the bast that just never balanced for crap.

Question Re: Revos and Balancing?

kinglenario,

I notice that you are in Atlanta. Which shop (location) are you using to get your tires balanced, etc.?

I have had Discount Tire in Roswell & Sandy Springs Toyota work on this. Neither could get it right - although only Sandy Springs was using the TSBulletin...

Re: Revos and Balancing?

Goth,

I have Revo's on my FJC, but they are 285's. The original balancing was fair at the Firestone dealer. I had a very slight vibration at 60, but no big deal for 10k miles. When I rotated my tires though from front to back, the shake was horrible.

I took it back to Firestone and they said one tire's balance was way out and they redid them. It was a little better, but still sucked.

I took the balancing write up talking about road force, etc. back to the Firestone guys and they said they didn't have the equipment to do that. They admitted their equipment was designed for speed (getting customers in and out).

One of the techs that had a lot more experience did another rebalance. He spent a lot of time with adapters, etc. (By the way, I have the stock aluminum wheels). When he finished, he said they were balanced properly now - at least the way he does balancing and said he felt comfortable even without taking it for a test drive. I told him I'd let him know.

Well they now feel perfect at any speed. Zero shake. I called to thank him for his fine work.

The bottom line is that they can be balanced properly if the tech knows what he is doing - even if the shop doesn't have the latest equipment.

Re: Revos and Balancing?

Yeah, I can tell that I am just going to have to find a shop that has at least 1 really good tech to take care of this.

The good news is that I can usually drive below 50 or above 70 here in Atlanta so that I can avoid the worst of the shakes. :-D

But, still a pain overall - plus the extra time to get it to a Discount that has the good tech and/or hardware/software combo.

Re: Revos and Balancing?

I have had NO problems with Firestone Balancing my REVOS, they ride as smooth as those stocker Dunlaps at all speeds, it must be their equipment. Make them redo it until they get it right.
