-6 offset vs +15, less likely to rub & why??

The wheel I want is 17x8.5 american racing with 4.5 bs. I plan to run 285/70/17 Revo's. What offset will be more likely to rub and why, the -6 offset or the +15, I don't know which to order. I don't understand, I thought the offset just pushes the wheel outward and does nothing for diameter, please explain. Thanks

order the -6 offset and check your centerbore. Positive offset pushes the center of the wheel inwards towards the center of the vehicle. Negative offset sends the center of the wheel outboard. I have -6 on my Welds. Most claim that 4.25 is the minimum(centerbore), it is not. My Welds have a 4.17 centerbore and fit fine.

If you want to understand the basic principle, just take it to the extreme.

In one case, ff you had a huge (-) offset the wheels would be almost totally outside of the fenderwell where nothing could interfere. In the opposite extreme, if you had drastic (+) offset the inside face of the wheel would be up against the suspension, body mounts and side of the fenderwell and there would be zero room for articulation.
