Max tire size for factroy spare tire mount

With all the threads on tire size someone must know this answer. I've been searching the past threads but no luck so: What is the Max Size Tire that will fit on the factory spare tire mount.

If this is limited to Stock or close, does anyone have a mod for carrying a larger spare on the factory mount?

I'm going to be running with two spares and don't want to find out I need to engineer a mod after busting the bank on tires... knowing before hand is some how easier to rationalize.

I've seen posts of up to 35" tires going on the stock mount. I have 33" on there right now. I've seen 35"s on several rigs on the forum - the one that most comes to mind is maybe search on "spare tire mount" and username "bellydoc"

The issue that is talked about is "how big before the door breaks?" I've never seen a post on the door breaking, so it's hypothetical right now. To stave off any potential danger, there is at least one aftermarket bumper with a swing-out tire carrier (fabfours) and several in development.

Doc has 315s on his, but he also has an aftermarket rear bumper. I'm not sure which one or if it effects the clearance for his tire.

nice ofrd_grl... and no mod to get the tire to hang on the back without scraping the bumper?

Re: Max tire size for factroy spare tire mount

Thanks for all the input... just to close the loop in case anyone is searching on this topic.

The following fits on the Factory Spare Tire Mount with a stock bumper (Just Barely):
Wheel: Stock 17 inch Alloy Wheel
Tire: Toyo Open Country M/T 295x70x17

The extra weight of the larger Spare (about 90 lbs for 10 ply) is noticeable when swinging the door open or closed. If you throw the back door open you'll know when it reaches the end of the door lock... there is a thud :-).

picture can be seen at my blog: LastGreatRoadTrip.com

Thanks again for all the input.
