Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

I've been looking for good AT tires I was set on MT for a while and doing the Kook's but they are hard to get near me and I decided MT may look best but is overkill now that I don't get out and play like I used to. There will be some occasional trails but long highway trips to work. I've come down to thinking for the money my local Bridgestone shop is looking the best. Does anyone have experience in regular AT's vs Revos? Which one is better offroad? All five will be under $1000 on 285's and there is only about $100 to $150 difference between them for the sets. I've been reading and sounds like everyone likes the Revo's but noone has really compared them to the regular AT's. Thanks in advance.

Re: Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

rhett, I had the Revo's and the Bridgestone MTs once on my truck. If I would have to choose again Bridgestone, I would go w/ the MTs. They don't make much noise and they're good on-road tires, and you have them when you're ready to go off roading whenever there's an oportunity.
The only thing is that Bridgestone had discontinued them, but you may have your nearby store find them somewhere.
Also, they were greatly rated in the The Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels reviews.

Re: Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

Must.... fight.... temptation...... I had finally talked myself out of MTs since I haven't been able to make any of the local runs around here. I have told myself the ATs are for me now. FJ LE now you're making me change my mind again. Especially with Bridgestone Firestone. I thought Dragon may even throw a collage of Destination MTs on me again, those are nice looking tires.

Re: Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

Yes, these Bridgestone MTs were great in rain, sand, mud, and rocks.
I've taken them all the way from Florida, Utah & up to Montana.
If you decide to go w/ them, I hope you're able to find them.
I wish you the best.

Re: Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

Bridgestone puts more technology into the REVO.

They are quieter and the sipes are designed for water expulsion.

Go to your Firestone dealer and feel the sidewall on both, you will find the Revo a much better built tire.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Innovative Tire Design - A Comprehensive Tire Design Method
This method improves handling in wet or dry conditions and reduces irregular treadwear by combining an ideal tread design, casing shape, materials and construction.

Innovative Roundness - Rounder Is Better
Rounder overall tire shape provides better balance for wet or dry handling.

Innovative Compound
Increases wear resistance by reformulating the compound for strengthing rubber.

Super EPC
Super EPC consists of advanced technologies, an Anti-Hardening Resin and Link Stabilizing Agent, to help counteract the effects of heat so tires have the flexibility needed for wet performance as they wear.

Dual Layer Tread
As the tire wears, more of the inner tread is exposed so the tire continues to have excellent grip in wet conditions.

Hydro Evacuation Surface (H.E.S.)
H.E.S. more efficiently channels water away from the tread to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

Consistent Surface Contact (C.S.C)
C.S.C., a pattern of tread blocks designed for uniform contact pressure, improves dry and wet handling, reduces irregular wear, and results in better ride comfort.

Super EPO
Super EPO goes beyond EPO in providing wet handling as the tire wears. The interactive elements are Super EPC and an enhanced version of Dual Layer Tread.

Spiral Wrap
Spiral Wrap is a continuous nylon wrap that encircles the whole tire, helping the tire hold its original shape to improve high speed capability.

I worked for Bridgestone for 5 years and know their tires inside and out.

If choosing between ATs and REVOs, get P285/70/17 AT REVOs.

All that being said, I would get the MTs

Re: Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

I've had the Revos for a year and love their performance but hate their looks (not rugged enough). However, they are absolutely outstanding in the snow and on slippery icy roads, which to me, is the most important point.

I'd rather have the performance than look good sitting in a ditch waiting on a Hummer (with Revos) to pull me out. By the way, last year on the way up the ski hill I did pull a ford pickup out of the ditch after he headed into a snow bank, with no problem at all with traction on the icy road.

Re: Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

I've had both on multiple offroad vehicles. IMO the revos get the nod because of their performance in snow/ice conditions. The ATs will last a little longer due to the harder rubber compound. Either choice is a great tire.

Re: Bridgestone AT's Vs Revos

Thanks for the opinions so far on those who have had both. Snow and ice aren't an issue here, I'm thinking the Bridgestone MTs aren't going to be an option either. Still wish I had some kook's near or that the person who carries Coopers had their act together, I went there first to get Cooper STs and was told I couldn't even order them.
