ProComp VS. Mickey Thompson VS. BFG

Hello everyone. I am ready to get new tires and wheels for my rig. I have decided to get the wheelers steelies in black and now I just need to figure out which tire. Performance Products is having a sale of buy 3 get 1 free on Procomps. I am therefore considering Procomp Xtreme Mud Terrain. I also like the Mickey Thompson MTZs and the BFG Mud terrains. HELP!!! What do I do? I do a lot of normal driving on road and am just getting started with real offroading. I live in wisconsin and am not privy to any trails close to south eastern wisconsin. I do want a mud terrain and I know it will wear quicker, but I dont want to sacrifice the look or performance of a mud terrain. So which should I do? What do you have, love, hate, etc.?

Look up the comparison of these tires on the tire rack website. Also you might want to look at all the MT"s in 5he size you are looking for. Some are better in the snow, some in the mud, ect. That should help you make a better more informed decision. It helped me.

Good idea, but tire rack doesnt sell 2 of the 3 tires I am comparing. At least they are not shown.

Re: ProComp VS. Mickey Thompson VS. BFG

I would put them in this order:
MT MTZ's
ProComp XMT
BFG MT

i have a buddy that has always done nothing but BFG MTs and loves loves loves them, bottom line is you probably wont go wrong with any of these, but i put the MT first because they have great side walls and have some siping which will help on road, and the BFGs last because they dont have any siping, but you should feel confident about any of these tires, they will take you where you want to go.

still waiting for this thread to help convince me too. I am leaning towards at ,instead of mt, due to the percentage of time i drive it on road. otherwise if I could afford it, i would buy another set of wheels and put mt on them for offroading. just my position on these.

Re: ProComp VS. Mickey Thompson VS. BFG

i have ran lots of BF muds, and even have a set right now, but my MTZ's on the jeep are a far better tire both on and off the road.

thats why (for now) i am planning on getting the DC FC-II's they are supposed to be the best thing out there between a AT and MT.

i want to try that new cd crusher tire. i think it may be more suitable for driving on the road than the boggers.

Re: ProComp VS. Mickey Thompson VS. BFG

I suppose another thing to keep in mind is that I have the stock steelies right now with the good old dunslops on them and I plan to use these in winter when salt is in full effect. If I find that they work for crap, I will just put the muds on and run these instead. Having 2 sets of tires and wheels will give me a little more versatility as well, which is why road wear on the muds is not a huge concern.
