What is the largest tire size without a lift???

Just curious, Im thinking of getting the one of two tires......
Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo or the Goodyear MTR in a 285/70/R17.

1. Does anyone know if I will have rubbing issues if I do this without a lift.
2. Does anyone know the largest tire size you can add without rubbing on a stock FJ

Re: What is the largest tire size without a lift???

Thanks for the link that answers most of my questions.

It seems like a 285 is the largest size without a lift. I saw another thread saying the 305/70/R17 has rubbing issues.

If you go with the 285s, keep us posted on how they fit!

Re: What is the largest tire size without a lift???

i have 285 Tera Graps mounted on stock allloys,,they do rub a little on full turns..just on the mud flaps (outside edge of tire),,getting it leveled next week..hopefully that cures w/o the chop.

ThOSE ARE 2 VERY different tires, one mud, one A/T....I was just doing the tire size dilemma myself, decided on Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armours in a 275/70/17 to avoid any rub issues and they look a little more agressive than Duelers, and I do lots of road driving & have real snow & ice in winter..areas where a M/T just does't work as well.
Good luck with your decision

Re: What is the largest tire size without a lift???

I'm putting on 285/75/16 its pretty much the same as 285/70/17 so I'm guessing i won't have any rubbing issues.

Yeah i know they are very different. I was leaning more towards the Revo since i dont get to play off road as much as i would like. And I really get to take more snow trips so i think they would be better than the MTR. I just love the looks of the MTR. But i will definately check out the Goodyear wrangler silent armor.

Re: What is the largest tire size without a lift???

I'm leaning toward the Goodyear Wrangler SA's too, because they're supposed to be great in the snow (I ski a lot) and I like the idea of going slightly bigger and more aggressive tire. I don't want to do any lifts though (at least yet) as this is my daily driver. Anybody know if there's any affect on MPG going and/or tire noise from the stock Dunlops to these. I'm still gonna do it, but just want to have my eyes wide open.
