bfg at load c tires

well i started getting real serious about tires for woodstock. thats the fj's name.
I looked at firestone mt and Bridgestone at 4 ply and then priced the bfg at ko loadc tires the best price is the bridgestone at 4 ply. but i was most impressed with the bfg at ko tire asked lots of questions about all and found the price to about knock me over. 975.00 with road hazard (WHich is covered by road hazard) free rotation, balance etc lifetime. so as I progress should I look any further? I really like the bfg tire...

Any input is welcome, experiences, issues, likes..

I just replaced my 265/75/16 BFG TA KO's $750 mounted, balanced, out the door from America's tire co.
and I'm in Cali, I'd find another shop.

Re: bfg at load c tires

it was for 4 tires.

I am not sure about what i am hearing about the mud issue of not so good. that is what i want a at for is to handle any muddy situations i get into. so Now I have to question this tires mud ability. hmmm? input. for best all round tire for hard and mud and snow? I thought this tire was highest rated for all I must have misunderstood something. Is this why I see a lot of Fj'ers using mud terrain? My only prob is I am getting lazy i guess But i don't want to have to change tires and rims everytime i go out , and then return home to change them again. SO Maybe I should do some more research on which is best for my use thx for replies// more the better open hijack my thread//lol

I share your concerns. So long as you dont use the FJ as a daily driver, you can get true mudders. My current top choices are Firestone Destination MTs, Goodyear MTRs, SuperSwamper LTBs, and BAJA claws. You can search for each tire on this site to hear ppls experiences and opinions.

Factors to consider when buying a true mudder (imho):
(1) wear/tear of the rubber-- radials tend to have harder rubber that will take longer to wear down
(2) Mud clearance-- ability of deep treads to throw off mud and debris as you drive for better traction
(3) Tread width-- the wider the better your grip, but also harder to steer and some fitment issues (10.5 inches to 12.5 inches seems to be the norm on here)
(4) Rain/sleet ability-- mudders are great on mud, but the big wide lugs can be very slippery on pavement. If you will be regularly driving on the road, you might want to consider a less agressive tire.
(5) Durability-- goodyears are 3 ply and swampers are 8 ply (ie more layers of rubber), this would imply swampers are better, however the rubber used by goodyear may be more durable and so the two tires might be equivalent. Tire reviews and ppls opinions will help with this (google tires made easy)

Thats all I can think of for now.. let me know what you come up with.

PS. Im searching for 5 tires, I figure if I need the spare on a trail, I will want to replace with same and get back to drivin!!

Either get an AT for everything and sacrifice performance in the mud or get a MT tire and sacrifice in everything else. There is no AT that will compare to a MT in the mud.

BFG AT's are very good all terrain tires, but they are not, and never will be mud tires. Since your in NC, I'm guessing your talking about venturing into that nasty, gummy, sludge, you call wet dirt. And since you probably don't have snow on the ground/road for 4 months out of the year...if it were me, I'd be buying some MT's.

As far as price goes, I was able to get 5 285/17's for $925 ($185ea) at Discount Tire, so your price for 4 seems high.

Agreed, for 4 tires that price is a little steep.
