My FJ came with Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 tires (size 265/70R-17). This is an extremely poor tire, with an awful reputation and performance very deserving of that reputation. (See TireRack Ratings.) Indeed, Toyota’s website states, “The FJ is engineered to climb 20˚ grades, ford 3-foot deep rapids, and drive over boulders the size of refrigerators.” Without question, it is NOT an offroad tire, and I would go so far as to say it’s a dangerous and defective product. Point in fact, while driving on a dirt road, I ran over some rocks much smaller than “boulders the size of refrigerators,” and yet a significant portion of the side wall just blew out for no apparent reason!!!
We just completed a off road trip with this same tire and we now have missing chucks of rubber in our tires. I would avoid rocks with these tires. we are changing ASAP.

I traded mine in on some Goodyear silent Armors and got $200.00 for them. Also went upsize 275/70/17. Worked out great. Those tires are what I call "willpops".

Um yeah this was a no brainer, 99% of "off-road" vehicles never leave the pavement. Most oem tires are not suited for off road based on the statistics.

From all the reviews I read on them, they weren't suited for anything. I put 270 miles on mine before they were gone...
I complained to both my dealer and Toyota about these POS tires. Both said they felt the tires were quality items, deserving of Toyota's reputation. That worried the hell out of me.
