Re: Snow or Winter Tires

My 07 came stock with Bridgestone Dueler H/T's. Very good the first year on hard packed snow and ice, not so good in deep snow.

I recently put on a set Arctic Claw Xsi's (made my Cooper) sold by Big-O Tire, studded, wide V-blocks, soft rubber compound, and a fairly aggressive snow tread pattern. I'm very happy with them so far. In soft packed snow however, I'm not sure if anything other than chains works for good traction in turns.

I don't go up to the pass much, I guess I will just use the stock tires.

The Revo, are they the stock tires?

I got dunlops on mine
Go to www. tirerack.com and read the reviews etc. on the stock Dunlops and decide for yourself.
I think they are terrible in snow. But I wouldn't buy snow tires just for one trip.

don't use your stocks in the snow....you will infinitely increase your chances of crashing.

I have the better of the two - the Bridgestones (I hear the Dunlops are worse) and my FJ slides around quite a bit in snow or ice...especially while stopping/slipping

Re: Snow or Winter Tires

I've been stuck in about 1.5' of powder... more operator error than anything else though. I don't find the Duncraps too bad in snow but I've wheeled with a guy who had Blizzaks and it was night and day, he had much more control than I did.

Re: Snow or Winter Tires

The Dunlops are certainly not the best performers in the winter. You would certainly benefit from the improved wet,dry and snow traction of the B-stone AT Revo's ... not to mention a more aggressive tread lug. This tire is going to give you grip for trail runs with a decent highway ride.

When considering a dedicated snow tire ... these tires are heavily siped and will not take the abuse of a trail run and are to be run in temperatures averaging 45 degrees and below. Please let me know if I can help you select your next set for your FJ.
