Re: what the heck is "hub centric"

Can tell you what you need, but I'd recommend the hub centric ones.....

HUB CENTRIC

Definition: A wheel that is centered or located on the hub by a machined center hole-as opposed to "lug centered" wheels that are located by the position of the lug nuts alone.

Re: what the heck is "hub centric"

I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but hub centric refers to either a wheel or a wheel spacer that doesn't just bolt onto the vehicle, but is precision machined to match exactly the OEM hub flange. This nearly eliminates wheel shake as a result of poor lug tightening, poor machining, etc. It also keeps the wheel/wheel spacer as close to OEM as possible, relegating you to look for poorly balanced wheels as any cause for steering wheel shake/shimmy.

Anyone else, please chime in and correct my response or add to it.

Re: what the heck is "hub centric"

I was told when I bought my rims that the FJ needed hub centric versions.

The FJ hub does have a flange that the wheel would have to fit over, if this is relative to the question..

Re: what the heck is "hub centric"

I think you would have to consider hub-centric to be ideal . . . but certainly not required. I like the positive location the hub provides rather than the "where's Waldo" locating method of the lug nuts.

Re: what the heck is "hub centric"

Most wheels that are universal and fit a variety of vehicle will need a center ring (or shim) to match exact to the hub of the FJ. If relying of the lugs (or lug centric) to keep the wheel tight to the hub is not recommended. If a lug backs off or a stud is broken will cause severe vibration and possible wheel failure. In my opinion, the wheel should be a hub centric fit it insure your safety. Feel free to contact me at 800-428-8355 x: 692 if you have additional questions.
