Tire Recommendations Please.

I don't need new tires yet. But... Doesn't hurt to do some research.

Anyways, I'm sticking with the stock 17" wheels.

Can you guys recommend some good all around (i.e. good in the snow, mud, road) tires?

How badly do these tires with more aggressive tread affect gas mileage? Road noise? What kind of life (mileage) can you expect out of them?

Re: Tire Recommendations Please.

if you keep stock size, milage wont be significant, road noise depends on the tread design and void ratio of the tire, and life depends on the type of tire and hardness. if you want something that is good in the snow, wet, and road, then a mud tire probably isnt for you. how often do you see yourself in the mud? mud tires are also louder, and will get worse milage and life than an AT or road tire. i would look into something like the nitto terra grappler, bridgestone revo, goodyear silent armor, toyo open country AT (pretty much same as terra grappler). also, go with a passenger car tire for ride comfort. if you arent on the rocks and loading the car with tons of stuff you dont need a LT tire. the sidewall is generally a different profile as well. and you cant really fit enough in the FJ to need a LT tire. clear as mud? really ask yourself how much off roading are you going to be doing?

Go with an AT, I got BFG Mud Terrains and I love them on and off the road but my daily commute is about five blocks.

Re: Tire Recommendations Please.

I have a possible alternative to the BFG at. Yoko Geolander A/t-s
Pros: Cheaper, deeper tread, not too noisy,
good in snow although I haven't been able to compare them to other tires, they are miles better than the rugged trails that came with the FJ.

I haven't had a chance to test them much off road yet
