Question Backspace?? Quick issue!!

I have the factory trd wheel on my fj now as shown below... I am wanting to get new wheels soon.. And I know for sure I would like to have my tire "stick" out a little more from my fj..I have been somewhat discouraged from getting spacers, and I think it would be a waste of money if im looking in to getting wheels eventually

I have the bushwacker flares and my 33's hide under the madness so they look small and from behind doens't look so "BIG"...

Soooo when i get new wheels, what back spacing will get be the "wider" stance???.... I have 285/75/16 on the trd.... Just need to know what to look for on wheels size besides the fact that I need a 16incher..
Your help is greatly appreaciated as always!!!

if you still have questions post them up in a new thread titled something along the lines "I read the sticky but still have question..." then we can help easier and make the sticky more clear for everyone else, thanks.

Re: Backspace?? Quick issue!!

Wheelers offroad sells 16x8 pro comp extremes with 4'' backspacing and will push your tire out further. They would look nice with your set-up.

Re: Backspace?? Quick issue!!

Why did you get the big fender flares if you want your wheels to stick out? You're gonna need 3" wheel spacers now haha.

There are wheels out there with bigger than "standard" backspacing.....but you may or may not like them. I too am looking for a wider stance. If you find the exact wheel that you like and the backspacing isn't what you need......then get some wheel spacers to push them out a bit. This is what I plan to do. Seems like there are more and more people using wheel spacers (AKA hub adapters) now and they all seem to like them.

Re: Backspace?? Quick issue!!

i am running procomp 7105 wheels in 17X9" and 4-3/4" backspace and negative 11mm offset. they stick out about 1-1/2"-2" past the factory flares. but i am running a 305/65r17 tire which is about 2" wider than your 285s.

305/65/17's -----12" wide
285/70/17's------11.22" wide

This is what I found.....I could be wrong though.....I usually am (just ask my wife, haha)

ANYWAY.....Hey Mud,,,,your Yellow FJ ROCKS!!! Anymore pics of the truck head on or from directly behind would be appreciated. I wanna see how wide that stance is. Thanks

Re: Backspace?? Quick issue!!

I don't think you read the sticky.

There are MANY wheels that don't fit because of the brakes. You can't just pick any wheel that you like the look of.

If you stick the wheel out more, then the front wheels swing back and forth farther when you turn. A tire that doesn't rub with 4.5" of backspace MAY rub with 4" of backspace. The less backspacing you go with, the smaller a tire it takes to rub!

Get ready to modify the wheel well.
