2008 off-road, 16"- 5 spoke trouble?

I came across a thread either on this fourm or over at TTORA, about design problems with the wheel stem sticking too far out. Now I can't find it even with a search....I guess it broke off a couple of FJs', and the 17" wheels had no problems running the same trails. Is this bull?

Maybe I'm not understanding, but are you referring to the spokes on the wheel, or the valve stem?

Re: 2008 off-road, 16"- 5 spoke trouble?

if you are talking about the valve stem... I broke mine off a couple weeks ago. 16" wheels
I slid left going up a rock and scrapped the rear wheel on a rock to the side. It it didn't have the metal tire pressure monitor valve I would have been fine and the rubber valve stem would have bent and bounced back.
My local dealership wanted $106 for the replacement tire pressure sensor and then $50 to mount and balance.
I went to 4 wheel parts and they put a rubber valve stem in that wheel and balanced for 16 bucks.
Discount Tire said they couldn't put a rubber valve stem in if there was supposed to be the TPMS on the wheel.
I think it's a design defect.
