Newbie needs professional opinion on tire size

Hello,

I need help upgrading my FJ's tires. I've attached a couple of photos of a cruiser I saw on the web for sale. It has the set up I'm after (I know it's mild!). Take a look and let me know if you think the tires on this FJ are 265s or 275s. Also, do you think it has a small leveling kit or lift. I just got my Fusion FJ and it has 265 Duelers on the 17" stock rims (the Duelers gotta go!). Thanks, in advance!

It's hard to tell based on the pictures, but I would guess that this has 265/70/17s and no leveler. That is based on the fact that the back is higher than the front. Typically with a kit, the front is noticeably higher.

I don't have a leveling kit on mine, and I have 285's, and there is definitely less tire clearance in the front.

That is my guess.

See mine for a stocker with 285s:

Ya, I'd have to agree. It's hard to tell from the photo's. My advice would be to check out the Member Build page. There are ton's of different combo's(lifts & tires). The most common (& what I'll be ordering in a few hours) is a 3" lift & that will let you go with up to 295/70r17 tires as per Toytec sales rep.Your best bet is to check out the Build thread & see what others have done & decide what is best for what YOU will be using YOUR FJ for-some are rock crawlers & some are trail rigs. Lots of combos to choose from there. Good Luck & happy mod'n

Re: Newbie needs professional opinion on tire size

yep too hard to tell but like you had to get rid of the duelers on my rig...

I went with ToyTec 3" lift and did NOT perform the body mount chop...and now my Nitto 295x70x17 tires work great with no rubbing. If you go with the more popular size of 285...then for sure wont have any issues.....more aggressive stance, better tires....and the look it appears you are going for.

Re: Newbie needs professional opinion on tire size

Thanks,

I've read a lot of opinions here about stock vs lifts and rubbing on the 285s. Any rubbing noticed? We do a little trail riding, no crawling or anything too serious.

Re: Newbie needs professional opinion on tire size

Sure sounds like your in the same class as me. You will pull your hair out trying to decide what you want to do.Every one you look at looks better than the last. I see & know I have no need/use for a 6" lift & 35" tires(but damn, they just look good). If I had the $$$
I'd super size the FJ,but on my budget, a 3" & a good set of A/T or M/T 285's will fit my needs & pocket. Post it up when you-do it up,dooG kcuL,oop's,Good Luck....
