Speedo error with Nitto 295's?

For those of you with them installed, How is the speedo? I hear with the larger tires it run more "true".

And Do you think these will fit without a Chop, with the stock rims, and a level kit (4x4)?

Thanks!!!

I have been trying to figure out how far off my speedo is since I installed the new shoes. I haven't been able to find a car with a digital speedo on the highway so I can pace and figure out how far off mine is.

As for fitting without a chop, I chopped mine and I am pretty certain that with my wheel combo which is close to stock, it would have rubbed. As it is now, it is fairly close, but plenty of room for on-road driving. Haveen't tested em off-road. I would say that if the 295's cleared for onroad without a chop, you would def need one for off-road. I thought the chop was a big deal too....but it really isn't. Chop the sucker and throw some meats on there!

Re: Speedo error with Nitto 295's?

I have stock size BFG ATs and my speedo does not match my nav unit reading. I think a 285 would bring the speed down and correct it.

Re: Speedo error with Nitto 295's?

It has been discussed here before, and I don't know if it is different in Canada compared to the US, my GPS read true to the 265/70 R17, now I have 295 and am approx 6% off speed.(Speedo reads 100km/h GPS reads 106km/h)

Re: Speedo error with Nitto 295's?

speedo will definitely be off but you can calculate the correct speed calibration with a friend in another car and just estimate everytime you drive and nitto 295's will def. need a body mount chop to clear when turning the wheels full lock.

Re: Speedo error with Nitto 295's?

i have nitto 295's and just tested this exact issue with my GPS and what i came to conclude was that for every 20 miles you drive you have actually driven 21. Doesnt sound like much but when you go to calculate your gas mileage its those few extra miles make you feel a little better. Not sure if my numbers are 100% correct so dont hold me to it haha.

There are a couple of posts here with those links that shows you the real difference. I found that its pretty accurate according to my gps. Go to the sticky part of the wheels and tires forum.
