Toyo Homie, have you found a company that's putting out a lift kit?

Re: What Size Tires?

I'm assuming the stock oem tires will be 265/70x17 Bridgestone Duelers on oem 17x7.5" rims; the three types of Duelers (H/T, H/L, & HP) have identical specs: 31.7" tall, 10.5" overall width on 8.0" rims. The newest B.F.Goodrich All-Terrain KOs 265/70x17 are 31.8" tall, 10.7" width on 8.0" rims. An earlier thread stated that with imports there probably won't be easy or inexpensive ways to recalibrate the electronic transmission shift points, braking sensors and speedo error with really oversize tires.

Arrow About Tires...

If your FJ comes with the BF Goodrich tires, make SURE that you get wheel locks. I had those on my Landrover Defender and the Spare tire hanging on the rear door was stolen. So was my neighbors' up the street and several others I saw on the street with the spare missing. When I went to replace the tire, it was all but impossible to buy one. Now this is back 6 years ago.

Re: What Size Tires?

I'm hopin' that my upgrade with the 17" alloys and the "All-Terrain Tires" are the BFG's. If that's the case I won't do anything to it until it needs tires and I have a computer paid off and at home. I'm getting the FJ first. Then hopefully a new home computer.

Eventually, I want 33" BFGoodrich tires sitting under it. But I think what comes stock is going to more than suit my immediate needs. Plus at over $130 per tire - I'm in no hurry to spend another grand on this thing.

Wheel locks don't mean anything much. A lock can be easily taken off by hammering a slightly smaller-size socket onto it and wrench it off. You can also use one of those damaged-fastener removers. I've heard a story about a guy who put 5 different locks in one wheel (5-lug car, I guess he bought 5 different sets), one morning he found his car sitting on concrete blocks.

Mine won't have any spare tire anyway, just like all my other vehicles. Spare tire and its mount bracket are two of the first things to be removed when I got a new vehicle. In FJC case, it will make the rear door hinges to live a longer time and less overall weight
