Re: burning rubber

No, because all I have to do is think about doing it, and the CEL goes away!

I had a guy "do me a favor" and install an AIRAID in preparation for some wheel well modifications (that I have yet to do) when he was doing my gears.

What he did was to physically scissor out the coarse white filter material that sits BEHIND the stock air filter position.

Then, he forgot to put the gasket seal that's supposed to go where the stock air filter gets removed.

I didn't discover this for months, and when I did, I figured I'd probably aspirated enough silt into my fuel injectors to build an adobe brick, but I'd never actually suffered any problems from it.

So, I went ahead and rectified the situation by installing the gasket seal so that I wasn't sucking air in which bypassed the filter.

It was after THAT when I started noticing the occassional CEL.

I haven't proved that its a MAF sensor issue, but the evidence is suggestive.

At some point I'll probably want to buy an OBD II tool like "Scanguage" or its equivalent. I hope that I can find something that's equally useful for the FJ Crusier and the GM engine with all it's bastard parts which is in my project rig.

Like all else, with regard to these things... I have much to learn.

Re: burning rubber

you guys ever seen those tires that have red coloring embeded in them to make colored smoke? Pretty cool tires to put on a hot rod or muscle car. A little random but carry on with the thread.....

Re: burning rubber

I could easily light up both rear tires on my 84 Mercedes 500SEC. But i suspect that if i do it one more time both rear tires are done.

Re: burning rubber

i did one burnout in the fj for like 5 seconds without doing anything like turning off the vsc. It struggles with you alot but it will get them to smoke for a couple of seconds, i stopped after i saw a little bit of smoke it also felt like i was hurting the fj alot so i wont be doing this ever agian. If i wanted to do burnouts i will just go find some reason to buy more parts to install and rent a new tundra for a night hehe. So much fun with rentals.
