Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
Hey everyone, just a little side note on the SSC-60D. It appears that what we've been reading on this forum is incorrect. TMS USA is wrong, this is an inspection, eventhough the letter sent to all of us says otherwise. I have been through the ringer on this one back and forth with Toyota TMS and a couple of dealaers. I've had mine inspected but was told they are fine (as previously noted). Your best bet is to change them yourself, if you were going to anyway, but make sure you do it "before" you got your letter (if you know what I mean) and "specifically for the condition". That way you can send in your receipt and get paid back, otherwise you get the shaft like me.

Just went to the dealer (Toyota of Long Beach) and got the shaft! My VIN (...8201), tires and DOT Serial # are within the affected range and called TMS prior to going to the dealer and was told they would replace all tires at no cost. The dealer took them off and "inspected" them and told me they were good even though I was told differently by TMS and I fit the "mold." Hmmmm, I'll be calling around, don't feel safe in my FJ anymore. Anyone else run into this yet??? And yes I do have the recall notice too where it's written in plain English (Spanish too) "What will Toyota do? Any Toyota dealer can confirm all five tires, including the spare tire, to determine if they are within the affected tire-to-wheel assembly range and replace all involved tires with new tires at NO CHARGE to you." Sounds pretty cut and dry....obviously not. Bad Toyota, truly bad customer service!
Yes, the same situation. What was the point of Toyota sending out the notice?

Not correct Judah. And I apologize for the confusion. Not sure the source or disconnect on our end, but I'll see if I can locate and correct.
Perhaps sharing a simple flowchart provided to all of our dealers will help explain the process for completing this campaign. The dealer is supposed to verify vehicle eligibility by the VIN. Then the dealer is to confirm that affected tires are actually on the vehicle, using the DOT numbers. If they are, they are to be replaced per the provisions of this vouluntary recall. There is no inspection for damage.

See the process flow chart here.

Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
Talk to me goose...ummmmm that would be you TMS USA...
and by the way that flow chart makes sense to me but the dealers are saying affected means it needs to be inspectd (I know they're full of it) but what can I do??? I think they are treating this like SSC-60A which did require inspection. you need to get on this before I go all USA traffic Highway Admin on your a@#

Judah, call the Customer Experience Center at 800-431-3331; Let them know that you are not getting the campaign service as expected from the dealers you are visiting--and let them know that TMS USA on this forum says that there seems to be some sort of conflict between what you are being told at the dealerships and the actual provisions of this recall. Are the original tires on your FJ?

No need to go to the NHTSA--We've already done that. You either have the affected tires or you do not have them. If you have them, they are removed, destroyed and replaced with new ones of identical make. There is no inspection involved.

I got similar response when I called dealer #1 (Longo Toyota). That's why I haven't gone because I was afraid something like this might happen or worse, a mix of new and old tires

TMS USA,
2 of the 3 dealers I called said they will inspect and replace only the damaged ones, not all 5 tires. I rec'd the letter, my VIN is in range and my tires serial # is in range too. It's one thing you guys are not willing to give the customers option to upgrade at the same time but more importantly, I do not want to be driving with a mix of new and old tires.
Is there a way you can attach an official letterhead stating what you have said above so at least we can show it to the dealers?
