Yes the tires are fine, but Toyota tells me they didn't mount them, Bridgestone and Dunlap did, hence that is the reason they, the tire companies are replacing the tires, not Toyota, which is why Toyota doesn't want to do an upgrade. That was what I was told by the Toyota dealers.
I guess that's fine, but if you're going to trade up anyway, why have to take such a big loss. Couldn't they give you the tires new for a trade in without having to put them on the road, or even deliver them directly to where you want to buy the upgrades? As soon as they hit the road, you can lose up to $100/tire.
It might make up for the fact that there was no tire option in the first place.
Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
Took my FJ to the dealer today for a scheduled appointment to do the recall, I waited 1.5 hours while they took the wheels off, dismounted the tires, and then realized that they didn't actually have any tires in stock to replace them with - WTF! Does anyone even check to see if they have the parts before scheduling service any more? They tried to do the same with the XM/head unit fix but I was smart enough to make them check and wait.
They also informed me that I had locking lugs (which I never asked for and hadn't noticed) so I asked them to just put normal lugs on since I had no idea where the key was (they used a master key). I was really unhappy when then charged me $40 for the 5 nornal lugs.
Then the dealer looks at you like you have a second head when you don't want to pay for the dealer service plan - what a mess.
The only up shot was that I got my head unit replaced and now XM sounds MUCH better.

I tried to have Toyota mount them on paper and then take them to Discount. Discount says they are still used, even never mounted. I tried to do the same with Toyota parts their response was NO NO NO, the tires are not their problem, they are the tire manufacture's problem Toyota is just being nice and friendly by telling us. Also the tires can be sent out to the wholesale distr. for recall verification whilst you sit and wait.

So, today my Toyota dealer was kind enough to load the new Dunlops into the back of my FJ, I drove them to Discount Tire, where they gave me $50 a tire (yes-calling them used even though the sticker was still on it) and I changed out to Michelin LTX M&S....which I have always liked. The Toyota guys needed my used ones back ASAP to return for the recall, so I needed to make the swap today. Better than waiting until fall to put the Michelins on for the snow.....
Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
Has anyone heard that they are replacing all the affected VIN's without an inspection? I saw that on a post somewhere and I can't find any hard evidence (from Toyota)...

You have a very cool Toyota dealer to actually work with you, kudos.

Just got this off Dealer Daily::******URGENT************URGENT************URGENT* ***********URGENT******
Please forward this URGENT message to your Service and Parts Managers.
SSC 60D on certain early 2007 model year FJ Cruiser vehicles entails the replacement of the factory equipped tires due to damage caused during the tire-to-wheel mounting process during vehicle production.
Effective immediately:
· Please skip the step to check the DOT Serial Number on the tires. Toyota has discovered an error in the DOT Serial Numbers of the technical instructions.
· If the involved vehicle’s tires are Bridgestone Dueler H/T P265/70R17 or Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 P265/70R17 tires, simply replace all tires (including the spare).
· You do not need to inspect the tires for damage. The damage can be difficult to find. Simply replace the tires.
· As always, please verify vehicle eligibility by confirming through Dealer Daily/TIS prior to performing repairs.
If your dealership requires further clarification on the repair procedures, please refer to TIS for the Technical Instructions, they have been revised to reflect this change. You may also contact your Region/Private Distributor Representative or call the TAS Hotline.
DO NOT use the 6531C1 Inspection Only Operation Code unless the repair order date is prior to today. This op. code will be discontinued. Dealers will no longer be able to submit claims using this op. code. A new operation code for inspection only, in case of aftermarket tires, will be released shortly.
We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
Larry Miller doesn't have tires in stock right now to do replacements. I was supposed to go in this Friday. Wonder what kind of shortages they're having elsewhere?
Thanks Homer for the heads up. I'd hate to get there and find out they don't have any, which is exactly what would have happened if I didn't just call the dealer.
Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
My VIN# was on the recall list, but tire DOT numbers did not match recall numbers.Took my FJ to dealer on Monday with recall notice and got 5 new crappy Dueler H/T s.RoverGGM is right only VIN# matters.Make sure they have enough tires for your FJ.My dealer only had 3 in stock and had to get the other 2 from another dealer.
Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
They told me they had to replace all 5 of mine. I tried to get them to give me a different tire, but no go. Actually, they didn't even have the tires in stock and had to order them...cold only get 4 by end of day and tried to give me my truck back (on a Thursday) with no spare until Wednesday when the tire would be in stock. I told them to put the old one back on so at least I had one with me, defective or not.
I was a bit surprised that they didn't have the tire in stock that they are changing under a recall without even inspecting. It's a bit annoying that I have to go back, but I'll live.
