I was really hoping the FJ was going to avoid recalls which is effectively what your talking about. I reluctantly switched from being a loyal Chevy man to try this new vehicle from Japan. It's nice that everyone is so understanding and appreciative but there has been a screw up which sounds as though it could potentially be hazardous (anyone remember Ford Explorer/Firestones?). Owners should be contacted post haste.
The comparison of this to the Ford/Firestone issue is totally inappropriate.
This is not a tire recall--The tires installed on our FJ Cruisers are high quality products from two different tire manufacturers.
During routine quality assurance checks at the facility that actually matches the tires to the FJ wheels, we discovered that there had been a deviation to the process that left open the possibility of damage to the inner bead of the tire.
We've seen no evidence of tire failure in actual use, and there is no way of knowing if these tires ever would actually develop leaks--We may end up drilling holes through lots of perfectly good tires.
As long as the possibility exists for a bubble or air leak at some point, we want to bring these vehicles back for servicing that will install brand new tires on the affected FJs.
We regret the inconvenience caused to our FJ customers, but trust they will be reassured by this action. In fact, though the risk of tire failure is low, we do want customers to take advantage of this campaign servicing.
Let's be clear--We will never hesitate to conduct a service campaign (or recall as you say) on any of our vehicles if it means increasing the level of customer satisfaction and peace of mind with their Toyotas and further improving the high quality, dependability and reliability of our products. It's part of our commitment to our customers to provide an ownership experience with their FJ Cruisers that is second to none.
Thank you for your comments--and thanks for making the switch to Toyota.

You're good. Wow. Anyone studying corporate communications ought to read this and learn. This is how it's done.

Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
I guess you guys at Toyota are doing good now, but you guys never did treat the Toyota 7M powered Supra/Cressida owners good (Hint: Blown Headgaskets); wich to me is dissappointing. Considering the Cressida and Supra were the flagships of the day.
Anyway, I plan on buying more Toyota products. But I've got one important question for Toyota. Why didn't Toyota import the LandCruiser 70series???
The 70 series is what the true hardcore offroaders wanted from Toyota. Toyota still sells the 70series in the Middle East like hot cakes at extremely ridiculous prices, $30,000 USD for a plain jane. So why didn't Toyota import the LC70series?

Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
I gotta say that I am really happy to get information directly from Toyota on this forum. I always kinda knew that there were official Toyota lurkers and hope that you were getting good feedback from us. But getting info from you is way cool ! This forum has provided so much excellent information that, unfortunately, the dealers have not - pre and post sale. Please stay active in the forum !?!? Puh-leeeeeze ????
Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
If i am one of the fj owners that has to have new tires put on can i switch them out for a different brand or style ? I would like to put a more aggresive tire on the fj like the BFG allterrains that are on the mini fj. lol Of course if there is a diffrence in price i would be willing to pay it. I see a benift to this proplem if i am one of the affected fj's. Thanks for the heads up and any info you can give me.
Re: Toyota's Special Service Campaign (SSC)--60D For 2007 FJ Cruiser
Alright heres the proplem. I contacted Toyota this morning and i am one of the fj owners with the special service campaign proplem. They told me to contact the dealer, which i did. There are 2 dealers in my area one of them told me to get back with them in a week or so as they had no info on 60D. The other dealer said they where to only inspect the tires not replace them and they would call me back with the correct info. I am not holding my breath for the call back from this dealer. When is Toyota going to be giving the dealers the info on (SSC 60D) so i can have this taken care of. Thanks
