Tire mileage: original tires

Just wondering.

I am still using the original tires. My 07 has been on the road now for 21 months and has 23K miles on the odo. the tires all look new. I'm really surprised given the FJ's weight that the tires have so much tread depth remaining.

I do rotate them every time I change oil which is about 3000 to 3500 miles.

Is this consistent with the wear others are getting?

(I understand the original tires are junk and I plan to replace them with something better.)

Re: Tire mileage: original tires

Sounds to me like the original tires are doing just fine. If the stick to the road/ground, don't make a lot of noise, ride ok and wear like that.. hey.. it works for me.. Ron

Re: Tire mileage: original tires

I got close to 40K out of mine -- they weren't BALD, but close enough that I wanted them replaced before winter (and a potential trail run in October, too).

If you take care of your tires they can last a long time. My dad just replaced the tires on his camry 70k later! And they still didnt look that bad.

So I guess I have no excuses because mine look like they have another 5 to7,000 on them. I have 28,000 and have never rotated them. Maybe it's time for those Pirrelli Scorpions I have been drooling over.

Re: Tire mileage: original tires

Man oh man are you guys lucky.....My DunCraps have about 43,000kms (approx 25K miles) and they are toast to say the least.....I even went into my dealership and complained. They have been rotated with each oil change at approx every 5000km.

The dealership told me if they were not down to the wear bars then they(Dunlop) would do nothing for me unless they were worn out prior to 30,000kms.....In other words anything over 30,000kms is considered a full life span. That is only 18,000miles ....

Needless to say I won't be purchasing Dunlops again.

Re: Tire mileage: original tires

I'm at 60,000 on my original set of Dunlop AT20 Grandtreks, plan on getting another 5,000 on them before winter. I do not rotate my tires, I figure they go around just fine themselves ;-).

Re: Tire mileage: original tires

I've got 38,000 miles and 27 months on my original Bridgestone Duellers. They still look good- although I'm glad that I've been regularly rotating them. You can definitely tell that the fronts wear more than the rears between swaps.

Looking forward to getting new tires eventually- but I'm going to get all I can out of the stock tires, first. Glad I had the Bridgestones and not the Dunlop as my original equipment.

Re: Tire mileage: original tires

Got 42,000 out of my dunlops, I rotated all 5 of them with every oil change and they still were bald at 42k. I replaced them with 285/70-17 BFG KM2's

Re: Tire mileage: original tires

I came across some recall info on Dunlop AT20 Grandtreks while looking for info on a friends car, but I can't find the web page now.
