16 or 17 wheels.....

Just picked up a 2008 4WD earlier this week and it came with stock 16's on it. I'm trying to decide if I want to go up to a 17 wheel or not. I do not plan on adding any form of lift kit and will stick to stock wheel sizing. Once that decision is made... its tires......

Any advantage to going up to 17's for a daily driver with mild offroad use? Thanks in advance....

Re: 16 or 17 wheels.....

I don't think there is an advantage in going to 17s. The reason is due to tire choice and price. Just compare and you will see. I found, on average, the same tire is at least 30% more in 17" then 16". This is what drove me to swith to 16" wheels. That, and I found I have more choice in AT and MT designs.

Just my .02

I agree with AB, though if you want to trade your 16"s for some 17"s I've got a spare set in my garage.

First, thanks for the responses! Are the TRD 16s that much an improvement over the OEM 16s? Sounds like I should stick 16s for my use.

TRD wheels look better and they are wider (16"x7.5") than stock 16" or 17"x7.0".

Re: 16 or 17 wheels.....

I went from the stock 17" alloys to 16" wheels and, as others have said, tires seem to be cheaper and more available. From a performance perspective a smaller wheel will allow you to run a tire with a taller sidewall resulting in more sidewall flex when airing down and offroading.
