Re: lug nut question

I never had a toyota before so I have a newbie question about thier lug nuts.

Does toyota use SAE or Metric? Are all lug nut sizes the same? I have both a SAE and Metric socket wrench set. Both the 3/4" and the 19mm socket feels like the right size but I would really like to know for sure. Any one know?

Thanks!

Jim

Re: lug nut question

They're metric but, 19mm and 3/4" are almost the exact same. 3/4" is actually19.05mm.

And .05mm is also known as 50micron and the people who make wrenches don't even know what a micron is...

(no offense to wrench makers... it's just that wrench tolerances are kinda sloppy...)

That is one nice thing about 19mm and 3/4"

I find the same with 25mm and 1" most of the time. They usually both fit!

Re: lug nut question

I picked up a set of aftermarket steel wheels for my Toyo Open Country G-02 Plus studless winter tires. They require the old fashioned conical lugnuts, and as an experiment I tried one of the lugnuts I use on my Prius winter tires and rims: they are exactly right

So I went back to NAPA and got 24 more lugnuts, which according to the box are:

M12-1.5 x 21mm

Part number #641-2042

I always use a torque wrench, not much of a "touchy feely" person. Have never had any problems setting the factory lugs or the aftermarket lugs to 75 ft lbs

I also smear on Loctite Nickle Anti Seize. Ever had a lugnut rust on due to winter road salt? Not a very fun experience at -40 trying to change a flat tire and the g**da** fingers are ready to snap off
