Stupid Wheel Locks

Went to install my level lift this afternoon and was foiled by the stupid factory wheel locks. Got one off, put the adapter on the 2nd and realized it was completely stripped. What do you guys recommend? How do I get them off now? Local Pep Boys etc. do not carry a replacement adapter. I was able to tighten the loose one but for the moment I'm hosed. Best I can tell the previous owner allowed someone to use an impact on the lugs as all of them were WAY overtight. If I can I'm gonna just remove all 5 of the stupid things and replace with regular lugs. HELP!

Re: Stupid Wheel Locks

I think a tire shop would have a tool that grabs the outside of the lock nut and with an impact wrench torque it right off.

Re: Stupid Wheel Locks

That would be my guess too. I'm sure you're not the first to have this happen.

Re: Stupid Wheel Locks

The dealership put those locking lugnut things on when I took delivery. Once I pulled into my garage, I took them off and have never used them since

It's easy enough to lose the key, or damage the lugnut, leaving you SOL in BFE with a flat tire. They're a farce, any thief worth his salt will have the special socket made by Snap On, MAC, etc, to easily remove the thing

Mac Tools Online Store - LT4000C

If your local tireshop doesn't have this kit, just ask the neighborhood juvenile crackhead car thief

Re: Stupid Wheel Locks

I've heard those silly Gator Grip sockets works well. Can't say I can confirm the rumor.

Good luck.

Re: Stupid Wheel Locks

Once I lost the key to some lugnuts. I got in there with a die grinder and ground the sides of the nuts flat. Then used a crowsfoot on an extention. It worked.

Re: Stupid Wheel Locks

The dealership ought to have a complete set of those keys. Mine does, so I never give them mine when in for rotation.
