Re: 2019 MB4S. Pictures

What an amazing weekend! It was nice catching up with familiar faces and meeting some new folks as well. The wheeling was awesome as always, but the company and energy was even better.

Saturday - Steel Bender
Distance: 11.85mi - Time: 6 hours 55 minutes

Big thanks to @debFJVT for leading, @neonurse for tailgunning, @Firemedic831 for great spotting, and @iLuveKetchup for the epic photos. What a blast watching everyone tackle some serious challenges. @Iconic_ and crew, I was bummed we didn't get to wheel much together this time around, but I'm glad you were able to fix the power steering issue.

Re: 2019 MB4S. Pictures

Saturday Evening - Fisher Mesa
Distance: 8.52mi - Time: 2 hours 43 minutes

The idea to explore some of the mesas this weekend was stuck in my head before I even left Salt Lake. The main reason was because I knew it wouldn't be so hot up there, the other reason was because there isn't much info on them and curiosity got the best of me. While everyone else departed for round two to run a section of Fins n Things, I set off to find out if there really is a trail that leads to the end of Fisher Mesa. Turns out the trail does exist, albeit clearly seldom traveled with dense sections of overgrown thickets. The area was a completely different side of Moab I never knew existed. I could only bare 4 miles of seemingly continuous paint scratches before I decided to turn around, defeated. However, the paint scratches weren't all for naught; I consider them collateral for one of, if not the most raw, intense, and epic planetary experiences I've ever had. I don't have the vocabulary to describe the literal electric energy I felt up there, so I'll let the photos do the talking.

Amazing pictures in this thread.

Well, Black Bear Pass and Imogene Pass are still closed.

I went to do Black Bear this morning and it was closed. There is a side path that some people created and seem to have used to go to the top, but it is frowned upon and there is a big NO sign there. I took pics with my drone to share. So, that trail may still be closed for Summit. And who knows? Maybe Imogene Pass may still be closed also.

I went and did Ophir together with another FJ that I met at trail start. Nice to meet you again Randy.

The Jeep guys who met me at the turn around point on Black Bear Pass told me that Calirfornia and Hurricane had some very muddy and slipper places. Since I am wheeling alone, I decided not to go there alone.

Re: 2019 MB4S. Pictures

Sunday - Polar Mesa / Onion Creek
Distance: 41mi - Time: 3 hours 2 minutes

A few new people showed up Sunday morning, and there were trail options to accommodate everyone - Metal Masher, Top of the World, Elephant Hill. But after last night's experience, that craving to explore the mesas stuck with me. @iLuveKetchup joined in on an overland-style photo run to check out Polar Mesa. It was a windows-down, stress-free, cruisy kind of day with temperatures hanging around the 70s. We covered a lot of miles in just a few hours, and there was no shortage of spectacular views and cool things to discover. Don't get me wrong, I love intense rock crawling and tackling obstacles that scare the bejesus out of you, but Moab in July is just too hot for that sometimes. The 4H fast pace and different scenery was a welcomed change for both of us and the dogs.

Re: 2019 MB4S. Pictures

Did anyone do Cliff Hanger, videos? Up or down? I see the scrape marks and having a hard time with a FJ doing it

If that was what I was seeing in the pics.

Lee Deb and I stuck our noses down into cliffhanger and we do have videos. But we were not willing to risk the damage we would have occurred had we pushed on . The ledges are really steep and undercut . 35s are a bit on the small size for some of these trails now . I do think we could get all the way down but I am not sure we could get back up some of the ledges . Next year I will be a little more prepared.

I have literally ground down my Factor 55 flat link This past week. Going down ledges and trying to get up some as well . There are also some climbs I was able to do that I do not think I would ever try again .

Can't let Diana see those pictures. She'd never let me go

I keep telling her that are also scenic trails to go on. The Old Barlow Road is about her limit We did that last week. Better shape this year than last.
