Tail Light Guards

Body Armor.....Yeah, I know, before y'all start, they're a waster of money and so on and so forth. Well, they were nearly a give away.

Anyhow, I was surprised at how well they were actually constructed when brought to me.

However, the only instructions I can find are those POS ones on they're website which are basically crap to begin with.

First off, the diagrams are crap.

Secondly, some descriptions of parts are construed.

Thirdly, what large hexnuts that are exposed after removing the large side panel??? All I see are blue and white plastic anchors embedded to drive screws into!!!

Somebody.....please help. This cannot be rocket surgery.

Re: Tail Light Guards

They're in there, just a PITA to get to. The bolts are too long for a socket. A ratcheting box end with swivel will be your friend for this one.

Re: Tail Light Guards

I installed these last weekend. The nuts they talk about are the 3 that hold the tail lights in on the long studs. The studs are only partially threaded. After the nut is loose I was able to finger spin them off.

Like FJinCO I also used a ratcheting box wrench (10mm) that had a swivel. The passenger side was the worst.

On the driver's side I was able to get a small cordless impact on one of the nuts. I just pulled the entire panel back until I had access.

Re: Tail Light Guards

Also FWIW, I took mine off and sold them here to another forum member. They look cool and all, but they actually cause more damage to the body and tail light then they protect. My wife had a hard time letting them go cause they looked good and she picked them out, so it was "her mod".

What do they actually to cause the damage?
Rub marks on the body and lens??

I was thinking of some, but may hold off now.

Re: Tail Light Guards

I have a set but never put them on either due to it being a PITA to remove the tail light assemblies....they sure do look nice...

...as for damage I have heard that the way they mount on the fender area they can get caught on brush and pull causing dents, scratches etc...more than a few people don't bother with them for that reason I think...

Re: Tail Light Guards

^^^ What he said. If you lean into a tree without the guard, you will most likely just crack your tail light lens. If you have the guard on, not only will you get the tree sooner, you will most likely also damage your body panel as well as your tail light.

Re: Tail Light Guards

the guard gets caught and the whole guard swings out to bend your rear door edge, lots of leverage and way worse than broken plastic. Club member showed me his damage n suggested i take them off and 2 weeks later i took one off while bending my rear door.. took the other off with tools.
