Re: Where to Begin with Mods - The FJX2000 List

I dig this post.

These are all things I had in mind, and pretty much in this order. But it's reassuring to see others with more experience confirming my direction.

Thanks, @FJX2000

Re: Where to Begin with Mods - The FJX2000 List

Great list! Thanks for taking the time to put this together to get new FJ owners like me started.

I’m curious about skids and their placement on the list. Does the FJ come with stock skids at all? I don’t currently have an FJ, but my sister’s 2007 may be available in the next couple of years, and I’m very interested in acquiring it. Anyway, that’s why I don’t know about these things, haha. If there’s no stock skids, it seems like that might be more important than a suspension lift since your vitals will be closer to the ground?

Anyway, thanks for the insight! All opinions are welcome.

The FJ has stock skids but they leave a lot to be desired. Although I did hammer mine up thoroughly, they werenít made for real trail abuse.

FJs come with thin (1/8") steel skids that cover the engine/oil pan area, but that's about it. They aren't suitable for hardcore crawling, but mine have survived some pretty harsh impacts. The thin metal is pretty easy to reshape with a hammer, too. I chose to spend my limited funds on a lift instead of skids (although I will still get skids someday) because the lift moves the vitals higher up and allows me to go more places. I'm just very careful with where/how hard I hit the underside on things.
