Re: Skid plate noise

Automatic or manual FJ?

And is it an older version of the skids?

They made contact on my automatic at the ADD and needed to be modified.

I can't search for it now... But you'll find info here on the forum.

Maybe @bazross suggestion of rubber/poly spacers/washers between the skid & the frame is worthy of consideration especially with this information.

Re: Skid plate noise

My FJ is automatic and its a 2009. The skids are aluminum. I purchased them in November 2017, so I assume they are the most recent version? But I will for sure try adding a small rubber bushing between the skid and the frame and see if that solves things, that seems like the easiest and most reversible solution for the time being

G'Day PDX,
Might be worth trying to sandwich a bushing between the overlap too.. The skids sit on one another... so not just against the frame.... type thing
Cheers

Update- I bought some 1/8th inch rubber washers from the hardware store, probably only cost about $3 total, and reinstalled the skids. I also made sure not to go too crazy with the tightening and stopped when the bolts seemed sufficiently snug. The noise is gone and all is good now. Thanks everyone for the help!

Re: Skid plate noise

When I got my '12 FJ last year and took it to the dealership for it's first oil change I told them about something rattling/squeaking when I would go over a bump (noticed it most at slow speeds). When I picked up the FJ after the oil change they said it was the skid plate. They said they tightened it to stop the squeaking in some fashion that they were familiar with by experience. I wish I was more help, but maybe call your dealership to see what they suggest. Or call Toyota of Des Moines - ask for Ian and tell him I sent you to him. PM me for specific details.

Past: 2007 Black Diamond FJC - totaled
Present: 2012 Trail Team Edition Radiant Red
