Re: Homemade Fishing Rod Holder

I got this fishing rod tube at a yard sale. I created a homemade mounting bracket. It works perfect.

I like the tube idea for long distance storage.

Re: Homemade Fishing Rod Holder

Ill see if I have any better pics. But I just hole sawed thou the plastic bumper and put pvc pipe in the holes. I did flare the top ends of the pvc by heating it with a map torch and using a beer bottle as a flaring tool. The bottom of the pipes are secured to the inside bottom of the bumper with some home made sheet metal brackets to keep them in place. I intend to add 2 more pipes, and make better brackets. Also building a front receiver to replace the stock cross-member. Someone gave me a new plastic bumper, when I get it all done I'm gonna transfer all the holes to the new one and put that on.

Re: Homemade Fishing Rod Holder

I tried about 5 different methods to put mine up on the roof rack, but no matter what, they kept hitting the garage door.

So I threw this together

Using a couple of these:

Not very pretty, but it is functional and allows for easy transport of 6 rods fully set up without impacting passengers (though whoever is in the rear, passenger side does get their hair rubbed when going over large bumps).

Just as with Toyota, my time with the FJ has ended. I miss it greatly but am now enjoying my new Ram Sport instead.
