Re: Complete Roof-Top Tent Comparison

Great thread.

I'm going to "sticky" it for the time being until ample attention is drawn to to it and additional tent systems can be submitted.

Re: Complete Roof-Top Tent Comparison

Nice!! I stated a while back that if someone created a Maggiolina style hard shell popup with a low profile roof rack on top of it I would buy it in a heartbeat. Most the RTT's take up too much roof room. As it is the only one I have seriously been considering is the oasis II as it is more lightweight and not a permanenet mount. It can be thrown on and taken off after a trip with minimal effort and still leaves more usable rack space than the other options.

RTT Specific Roof Racks:

ARB Touring Rack

And

BajaRack (i think.. is it out yet?)

The biggest issue for me with my RTT is removal and mounting. The ARB rack i have is low and close to the roof line in the middle... which sucks (but a bonus.. lower profile)! The rack is so close to roofline, that it is almost impossible to bolt down the RTT. For removal/mounting i have to tape to wrenches together and turn an 1/8 of a turn everytime, or have someone with girly hands do it.

Re: Complete Roof-Top Tent Comparison

The Bajarack RTT version is currently shipping, we have made some modifications to the original design to be compatible with Eezi-Awn Series 3 1200 series, Camping Lab, ARB, Mombasa car top tent and soon AutoHome Maggiolina.
The EXPEdition (RTT) measurements are 48" wide x 84" long, flat area is 48" wide x 58.25" long. The mounting brackets for the FJ allow easy access for a guys hand to tighten all 6 mounts:
The price for this rack is $565.00 plus shipping (approximately $110)
Current accessories for this rack are: Light tabs (4 per box), Light cage for larger (up to 9” diameter) lights as seen on this picture:

Re: Complete Roof-Top Tent Comparison

Yea, no kidding... get the Camping Lab and put it on the BajaRack. Then laugh about the fact that you've got a tent AND rack for the price of one of those other tents alone...
