Ordered Alu-Cab Shadow Awning & Fourtrek’s mounts.

Beach trips are going to be SO much easier & pleasant now.

I ordered the right hand side awning so that the rear door can be used.

We live 15 minutes from Padre & Mustang Islands, but don’t always go to the beach on windier days due to our ALPS Mountaineering Tri-Awning not being good in the wind.

I saw a guy a while back on the beach with a shadow awning on a 4Runner and was thoroughly impressed that it held up in the wind w/o using the support legs. He showed me how easy it was to deploy & put away and I was sold.

Sounds great. What roof rack are you going to mount it on?

OE, which is why I went with the FourTreks mounts.

Other than an awning, the only thing the Roofrack gets used for is to strap down a shovel and beach chairs, so I don't really have a justification for upgrading the roof rack.

I'm in the process of building a beach specific truck (74 Ramcharger), so I'm not wanting to go crazy with the FJ since it's my wifes daily driver. It's got 5100's on max & 33's, and replacement front bumper, but that's about it.

All the parts have been delivered, but I spent my days off working on the house and taking the kiddo surfing.

Re: Ordered Alu-Cab Shadow Awning & Fourtrek’s mounts.

well crap.....I don't think it's going to work with the OE roof rack. At least not for my intended purposes.

The mounting to the OE roof rack allows too much flex on the frame (especially near the hinge) and doesn't provide enough rigidity for the Alu-Cab shadow awning.

My wife is absolutely thrilled, but I told her that I'll probable have to buy an aftermarket rack. Her response was "get it bought".

Definitely upgrade to a new roof rack and you’ll love that you did. I am wondering just how heavy is that shadow awn? I like it but it looks so huge packed up I am wondering if it’s too much for one side of an FJ?

Esp if your trying to weight conscious?

Mike

Re: Ordered Alu-Cab Shadow Awning & Fourtrek’s mounts.

Question about the rigidity Shank3r - is that because with the curve in the OEM rack the Alu-Cab awn is only attached at two points? Or is there another factor causing problems?
I've been looking at 270şs (the Alu-Cab is top of my list) but I have the OEM rack & dam which complicates deciding to replace the OEM rack.
