Need Expert Insight

What is the policy on one dealer getting a car from another?

I have somewhat of a hookup at a Toyota dealership, but they NEVER have any FJ's in stock. I would like to purchase an FJ at this dealership.

Does the acquiring dealer have to pay the other dealer a commission, etc?

Usually they have to do a trade of some sort. What dealership are you going through?

Re: Need Expert Insight

They have to dealer trade, and that means the dealership has to have something to trade. If they don't have any on the lot or any coming in they can't trade, and they normally have to trade something better for something of lesser value to get the car, and not only that they won't really want to deal cause they are already losing a little value.

EDIT: oh, Thanks and Gig 'EM!!

Re: Need Expert Insight

Dealerships are NOT doing trades on FJ's right now. It's every man(or dealer ) for themselves right now. It might take another 3 -6 months for trades to happen.

The dealer I got mine had my FJ sent from another dealership. The FJ still had the old dealer emblems on it when we test drove it.

I guess i stand corrected, or you got lucky. Back in April, when we bought our FJ NO ONE was doing trades. We had to find our own FJ. We told the dealer that we were working with where the one we wanted was, and no trade was able to be made! Hats off to ya!

Yes I did get lucky, but I paid the price. Oh, I paid dearly. We didn't even ask to do a dealer trade. We were going to have to use this dealer so we could get a Costco discount. The day we talked to them, they had just got it in. We got ours back in April too. That dealership sucks ballz BTW.

Re: Need Expert Insight

I appreciate the feedback and information.

If a dealer does not have an FJ in stock, I wonder what the dealer could swap to make the deal happen? Yaris?

Re: Need Expert Insight

Nope, they will have to swap FJ for FJ. How the biz works unfortunately. They need a vehicle that will be as hot as the FJ with the same value, and you would think a yaris or prius would work but i just doubt they will do anything but FJ for FJ
