Its been on the market for more than 8 months now
I wasnt aware. I was looking for one when I got my FJ back in August 2010 and K&N seemed to be TBD on a CAI for 2010+ models.

Re: K&N Air Filter vs. TRD CAI ???

K & N Filters have always been very power full.
I was used several times on rally cars, including the air box Webber carburetors.
However, and I could be wrong but I think everything depands use that one wants to do.
If it is to make a lot of asphalt no problem with the K & N for the one against which many of the TRD off road will be more advisable as well protected, it will suffer less from dust, mud and water.
Besides, I was ready to buy a TRD filter but reading this post I think I'll have a K & N because I made almost no off road, I prefer to gain power

Re: K&N Air Filter vs. TRD CAI ???

use code "Quick249"

total comes to $226.99, free shipping. Definitely a lot better than $400.

I'm still not clear on the difference between the 77 series and the 63 series. The 77 series is more expensive than the black 63 series. Any idea why?
The 77 series undergo CARB testing while the 63 series do not. You are paying more for the 77 because they have more R&D and test expenses into them.

Here's a video of a cold air intake from k&N with an FJ. I have a K&N filter in my 07 and have no complaints.

Re: K&N Air Filter vs. TRD CAI ???

The biggest difference is the K&N isn't a "cold air intake" where the air feeds in from the wheel well. I've always loved K&N stuff but went with the AFE (same exact item as TRD CAI) because it is by definition a cold air intake since its a closed box and is fed from the wheel well..

TRD CAI for 2011 = waste of money....K&N 77 Series by far more fun.....stomp your foot and the FJ ROARS
Just found a 77 K&N on Craigslist for $70. Installed it on my 2014 in about an hour (had to rob a rubber footer from my pressure washer)......It freaking rocks! I dont have a crap to give about if it goes through water or not. I could care less about HP gain. I LOVE how it sounds and I gained about .75 mpg on the first tank of gas.

So all of you that have commented on the facebook site, I got such a deal.

Bling potential rocks also!

P.S. The guy that sold it to me had to remove it because his wife didn't like the noise....

This post tells me 3 things

1. You dont know much about intake performance
2. You dont know much about computer controlled vehicle a/f ratio adaptation
3. Youre not going to make many friends here with that attitude
