I have found that starting from google is far better than any other option. I just type a few keywords and fj cruiser forum and get far more relevant results.

My search works in Autoguide but I only use it for finding specific members' posts.
I agree w/ using Google. You can restrict Mr. Google to searching a specific site with the "site:" option.

i.e. Search for "site:fjcruiserforums.com what size tire will fit my 3 inch lift"

X2...used site search regularly prior to the change...now I employ the method described above.

will this prevent questions on what tire fits MY 3" lift???

Hey!!!

I think you could form your search with similar syntax:
Code:
site:fjcruiserforums.com -"tire size" -"3 inch lift" exhaust water leak
This should find the most relevant exhaust water leak thread posts that don't talk about tire size and 3 inch lift.

I think Google strips most punctuation, however I think it's aware that " is synonymous with inch.

Then again, I may be way wrong.

Thx Smalldog.

But quite frankly, that's redundant. I have to do a search thru google instead of using the now-useless search function on this site? Really?

Re: HOWTO: Use the Search Function

The site search still works, you just might have to word things differently. Instead of searching for something using FJ BMC which it might say is to short or the words are too small, search for Body Mount Chop. There's so many threads with the same or similar names or names that have nothing to do with the things that are being searched that you have to mess with the wording a bit. Then you might get a bunch of threads that have some good, some bad, and some in between that you just have to read and scan to see if they contain the info that's needed. Some threads might come up and only have 12 views and replies where others have 212. That would be the one to check first as it's highly likely that people have been discussing things. It's not perfect, but it can work with a little work. Google is good too and with the new search function up top, everything is right there in the drop down box to use the site search, google search, and variations too.

Go ahead, skin it! Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens...

I'll ride in on a sunny day, Sing you a song, steal your heart away Like a cowboy Hang my hat like I'm here for awhile Kick off my boots and drive you wild Like a cowboy Well baby you know I can't stay long You wake up, I'll be gone Until then I'll hold on Like a cowboy.

When you do your searches, are you using a Google search or a VB Search? I wonder if it would help to try both and see if one gives you results that are more to your liking. Personally, I like the option to perform a Google search. It seems to return results in the most relevant format

Re: HOWTO: Use the Search Function

I agree...in addition to Google being the most efficient & versatile, I like its ability to restrict results to a certain time frame (i.e., this year, last hour, etc.).
