Question FJ and Kids

How many folks have ordered, or are planning to order, an FJ and have kids that will---to some degree or another---be shuttling in and out through the clamshell doors? Kids in the five- to twelve-year-old range, for example. Thoughts on that?

Right now, I normally get out when I drop my kids off at school anyway, so that doesn't seem like a big deal. Not having a rear window that goes down is a bigger deal, as the kids like the wind in their hair and all that. Is it so cavelike back there that kids will hate it, or---as I more suspect---they'll think it's so cool?

Thoughts from other parents who are definitely getting an FJ?

i got a 3/6 yr old. i dont really care what they think quite frankly. they will think it's cool because it's daddy's truck and it has mud on it. if they dont like it there's always the roofrack.

Re: FJ and Kids

I've got 2 young kids, ages 4 and 7. Since to get either one in or out of any car involves a car-seat of some sort, I don't think the clamshell doors is an issue, its actually an advantage to me over the Rubicon I currently drive.

Re: FJ and Kids

I have a 10 y/o boy who has been dealing with the "clam-shell" style doors on a chevy extended cab for five years. I have had no problems. When I first saw the pictures of the door and back seat arrangemnet I thought it looked small, but it looks to be close to the same size as the chevy was.

Re: FJ and Kids

I've got young kids that still require boosters... but I don't think it's unlike a Tacoma... right? A little more of a hassle than a conventional 4 door, but still liveable. My concern is more over the fact the rear windows don't roll down.

Re: FJ and Kids

2 girls - 4 & 6 - Car seat & booster seat. They don't get to complain. They're climbing into the backseat of my 1st gen Runner right now.

"...manly man manual mandingo..." - Pancho

Had to pass on the FJ.

Bought a silver Double Cab Taco w/ MT, OC, TO, & DZ instead.
