So was it because you lost the sway bar link nut?
I lost 3 boots that way- drilled the threaded end, inserted cotter pin and all done with the sacrifices!

Of the axle or the sway bar link?

My SB links are disconnecting so much more movement going on - end nut was constantly working its way off.

I'd like to see a pic of your links since nobody is making them anymore. I'll be building a set directly.

Yeah, the original failure was due to the sway bar link jamming the CV joint and then the stainless steel boot band getting sucked into the joint and wreaking havoc for several miles. I've got a set of disconnects going on now, and I'll be using a double nyloc to keep it fron coming apart again.

Nothing like that stuff coming loose and your SB karate chopping the boot! I ran a smaller jamb nut and a nylock. Knock on my head, no problems since.

Re: What did you do TO your FJ Cruiser TODAY?

I tightened up my manual shifter. It was way loose (1.5-2" of movement) and I sometimes would miss gears because of it. It would also rattle loudly and sometimes would slap my leg when off-road.

I basically removed the shifter, injected silicone into the loose/broken gasket between the two halves of the stick and wrapped it tightly with electrical tape to hold it until it dried. I drove it to work the next day although I'm not sure how long it will take the silicone to fully cure but the shifter is now super tight, has no noise and has almost no movement. I'll see how long it lasts but it made me realize how bad it was before and that if the fix doesn't last, it will be worth replacing the shifter.

I also cleaned the old grime off the plastic piece on the end of the shift lever and the one inside the transmission. I wish I would have bought a new one for $9 but it's easy enough to change. Neither piece seemed damaged but after 10 years I'm sure a new one would have been better.

@bazross posted a thread about discos with a parts list IIRC, think the title was something like Swaybar disconnects, deconstructed? Iíll dig up pics of mine next.
