Re: What did you do TO your FJ Cruiser TODAY?

Got to do some preparations for the FJ Summit that I've been meaning to do for some time. Got to repaint my rear ARB bumper, my rear axle, and my front bash plate. I also detailed my interior for the first time in a couple years! (Which is funny for me since I used to work for Toyota in the detail department. )

Re: What did you do TO your FJ Cruiser TODAY?

Upgraded from my older ARB sliders to my new MetalTech 2 stage sliders. I'm not sure if they even make these any more but they are awesome. These are a bit of overkill for what I usually am involved in but I also look forward to using them as steps for access to the roof rack.

Old ARB sliders which worked great for years. (BTW, these will be for sale.)

Adding the new MetalTech sliders.

No more door dings.

Was planning to be in Moab but I got a smart idea of installing the PS cooler yesterday because bad decisions. But what James wants, he gets.

Thinking it'd would be smart to place it in a nice tight spot would prove to be my downfall. Brackets all day. Need to finish triangulating the reservoir and one more bracket for the heat sink.

I hear you, and unfortunately they donít make for the clamshell style diff and I did have a talk to the owner of OX Alan, he said the clamshell is a very compact design and not enough room for anything also.

I must say it was extremely easy to install the whole thing.
OX uses something very similar to Atlas transfer case shift cable and very heavy-duty.

I figured that was the problem with the clamshell, the way to go on an SAS though. I need to look at OX and see if theyíve started selling them for 9.5ís, I see an 80 in my future.

Ah now I see what you meant when you said it blew up on you! The job did but not the actual equipment.

Re: What did you do TO your FJ Cruiser TODAY?

Friday, after being first embarrassed and then inspired by those detailing their rigs for a trip to Moab, etc., where they will only get them dirty again, I detailed the engine compartment. I'm only about 90% there, as there are still spots where dirt remains. I view this as an iterative process that will get better with time. While in there, I looked at the MAF sensor and immediately went to the NAPA store and bought some sensor cleaner and cleaned it up. Also threw in a new air filter while the AEM filter dries. And yes, there is still a lot of wiring that needs to be loomed and/or shortened. I am experimenting with the lighting on the cowls, and deciding which lights I really want up there. So there's that.

Re: What did you do TO your FJ Cruiser TODAY?

A long-running project has been to get a radio installed in this horrific mess of a dash:

After a lot of work with CAD* I fabricated some ABS and aluminum brackets which I bolted to what was left of the inside of the dash:

And voila!! (Excuse the French) It is in and it works! I'm going to run it "as is" for a few thousand miles to see how the structure holds up. It may need some more structural fasteners as my experience teaches that ABS glue does not always stand up to abuse.

At last the dash is complete. Well except for a few other things, like mounting a GPS above the gauge pod and the UltraScan II to the left of the steering wheel, and rewiring the center console and adding ports to allow easy attachment and removal of the seat heater cables. Stuff like that. But now I no longer have a gaping hole in the dash and my wife will ride with me. I hope.

Looking good! I swear the FJ runs better after cleaning/detailing the engine.
