I went to check another lake out this morning and got back to the Fj and I was surrounded lol.
I used to go up there when I was living in the Phoenix area in the '90s. Then not long ago I would go to Payson to visit a friend and worked in Show Low when needed. The highways have improved a lot over the past decades.

There's a couple of stories that I probably shouldn't share on a public forum.

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

Finally getting around to posting some pictures from Memorial Day in the Boise National Forest. These trails weren't technical, but going up and down 2,500 feet of elevation, running 50+ miles with no pavement, and seeing almost no people made the day perfect. The spectacular views were icing on the cake.

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

Took Jade on a long ride yesterday, about 7 hours and 250 miles +/-.

Back way to Detroit Lake (Hwy225-Rd46). No pics but realized I don't have many pics of the Clackamas River. Something to fix.

Hwy 22 south out of Detroit Lake to NF-11 (but the sign, easy to miss, says Straight Creek Rd.) Both names mixed for a bit then its just NF-11. NF-11 until it turns into Quartzville Dr.

Sadly to say its all pavement but a nice drive, two lane for a bit then single with turnouts. After you are over the pass you'll pick up Quartzville Creek then Green Peter Lake (reservoir).

Finally ends at Hwy 20 just east of Sweethome. Straight to the west and Interstate 5, or back way bypass Lebanon, through Scio, Stayton, across Hwy 22, Sublimity, Silverton, Molalla, Oregon City.. Start to finish, one of our old Harley routes (no dirt .)

Beautiful time of year. The only pics are at a section of Quartzville creek. The water was that clear.

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

I took it out for a senior moment. I drove an hour to see my doctor, only to discover that I had entered the appointment in my phone wrong. It's tomorrow. So I will be taking another drive tomorrow.

It was a nice drive though. I had a lot to think about. A potential move in a few months.

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

I sat in the driveway this morning just reveling in fact that I finally have one all my own. I'm pretty fortunate to have found it when I did and to find one in such great condition. It's hard to express how happy I am with this vehicle. The FJ is such a perfect fit for me. I've got a masters degree in digital preservation and I'm maintenance man for some properties. I spend hours debating (with myself, I can't get anyone else interested) if the term should be "clown", "jester" or "performer". Then I go scoop poop and run new wiring for automatic gates.
The FJ is all utility but the ride is so smooth. The knobs are designed to be used with thick gloves but there's A/C and power windows. There's so much thought that's gone into everything. I get a little giggle every day when I climb in.

Here is how I look at it:

Clown - rookie
Jester - Apprentice
Performer - Master

Drove it to Durango CO for a Dr appointment. While there I looked at new Toyota hatchbacks. Yum.

Itís so much fun to hear this, and how I still feel after years of ownership...never experienced a vehicle like this before, and Iíve owned many of the supposed ďbestĒ. FJs have some sort of magic built into their DNA

I'll be that old guy that runs it down to the lake to get some early morning fishing in. It'll feel the same when I hop in and see that faded dash with dust and every little mark or scratch will remind me of a time when the old FJ and I had some really good times together. Good stuff!
