This was actually a couple of weekends ago. Went out with my oldest to do some exploring. Quick hike up to Hidden Falls then wandered around looking for something to get us muddy. Didn't run into anything too rough but found a pile of dirt to drive up.

We played hide and seek.

You know that kid that picks a friend and tries to convince you they are twins? The Jeep looks NOTHING like you! Dork.

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

Got my ARB Twin installed on a prototype bracket that works well enough it probably won't get revised for a while. Installed a RTT that a co-worker is loaning me to see if that's the route my wife and I want to go then headed out.

We went up to the Mountain Loop Highway and went for an 11 mile hike/walk to the Monte Cristo ghost town then spent the day driving Forest Service roads. We ended up taking a road that crosses Rat Trap Pass and it was beautiful. There were at least a dozen water falls from small to medium sized that you pass along the way.

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

Finished the 2112 miles trip to Sochi for the vacation. FJ worked pretty good as a long distance ride for me, couldn't care less about road condition (though it does good on the good pavement too). Average fuel consumption - 12.3 l/100km or 18.97 mpg, that would be plains, mountains, a/c, fast passes and whatnot on a loaded FJ. I was driving alone, but all the baggage was with me.

Also found that I can somehow sleep on the front passenger seat if I put some pillow between the headrest and the seat back, so my neck rests on it. I originally planned to sleep in the trunk, but all the times I stopped to rest I just couldn't make myself go and move the baggage from the trunk...

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

Took off from work early to deal with the ladies at the ranch.

After spending 2 hours getting the gate to close and lock, I decided I earned a little learning time. Weíve got a small dirt pile that the FJ has been dying to play on. We went up in 4HI with no problem. We did it in 2wd with a bit more effort.
Because the dirt was dumped out of a dump truck the top of the pile has little hillocks which looked like the perfect place to play with the ATRAC. So we lined up, 4Lo, no locker, ATRAC on and easily climbed up then across the hillocks. I learned quite a bit about that system and throttle control. Itís pretty impressive to someone used to a ls in the back and open diff in the front.
After play.....learning for a while I drove off the other end of the pile. The end where weíve taken a scoop or two of dirt out. The end with the very sharp drop.

Aaaaaannnd promptly cased it. I spent the next two hours hacking at the dried clay with a broken shovel and an idiot stick. Then I got serious. I got the farm jack and lifted the back end up to get broken roof tiles under the tires. After that didnít work five times, I got real serious and dragged over some wood and used that under the tires. I finally got free just before the moon rose over the trees.
33 acres of flat pasture and I go find the only spot I could possibly get stuck.

Went to a local waterfall for a bit of mountain driving on tight dirt roads when you drive between a stone wall on your left and a huge drop into the mountain valley with a river on your right. Passengers had to sweat a bit, but...

So I’m up there and what do I find besides great scenery? Another FJ, of course!

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

Been having FJ Summit fun this week! Today we did Ophir Pass and Last Dollar Road. But I've also done parts of Imogene Pass and Red Mountain Mining Area stuff while I've been here. Some photos for proof

Re: What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...

Over the past few days, drove to K'esugi Ken State Park on the George Parks highway:

What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...-img_9042.jpg

Then on to Denali National Park:

What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...-img_9046.jpg

Then out the old Stampede Trail:

What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...-img_9054.jpg

What did you do WITH your FJ today, Take 2...-img_9056.jpg

And so it goes.
