Black boxes spying on us.

As many of you probably know, our FJ's have an EDR (Event Data Recorder) which is essentially a black box that records your speed, braking, and other data for the 5 seconds previous to a crash or other incident. The police are now starting to regularly pull these boxes and use them in court to prosecute the drivers.

I for one am getting tired of the increasing government surveilance of every thing we do?

1) How many EDRs are on an FJ, Toyota told me two.

2) where are they located?

3) If removed do they affect operations of the air bags, warranty or other equipment?

4) To the best of my knowledge, it is not a crime to remove them?:

On the flip side of things, the event recorder could be used to show that you did everything right and could clear you of all charges.

Boy, I'd like the answer to these questions too. First cameras in intersections now black boxes for cars.

I hope some of our guys finds a way around this.

Re: Black boxes spying on us.

I heard a really good joke about "Black Boxes" the other day. Probably wouldn't be appropriate to post it here though.

Does it involve a crashing airplance and the punchline "They look for the black box first"???

Your kidding me right... Dallas Police Dept doesn't even right up an incident report. I know because my wife got hit twice and the cops said "take it up with your insurance", "we don't write reports anymore"..
