What is the problem you're trying to resolve? Keeping mud and rocks from messing up the body or out forging streams and creeks and worried about water ingestion?

I've always been more about the function versus form perspective if I am limited by a budget. If you're after strictly an appearance thing, the snorkel will obviously be more noticeable.

Noting from your avatar, you're from the Houston area so maybe it isn't about stream or creeks but more about flooding in general

Given the level of difficulty with a snorkel installation versus the flares, I'd go with the breather first. If you mess up on a hole or cut, perhaps the flare will help hide the learning opportunity.

There is no practical problem that needs solving I happen to like the look they give the FJ.

The way things have been in Houston the last few days I should be researching pontoons.

Any specific reason why, just outta curiosity? I was considering doing one eventually, but if there's something I should know about them...
Nothing against the company per se, they are fine folks indeed. Reasons are personal: a. install precludes adding something into that corner of the engine bay b. the snorkel isn't as high up to my liking as others and c. the air travel route is not as direct(twist and turns) to the engine vs. say a Safari. To each his own of course.

One big concern would be the impact on a 2nd battery install behind the CAI box.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of the secondary battery issue. Although it seems that you can still run both, and they really don't interfere with eachother ( SEE HERE - fjc-mag.com April-2013 River Raider)

As far as having it higher up I can see the concern with dust or a large bow wave, but I hope i'm never high enough in water to need a safari style snorkel. The twists, well, I hadn't thought of that but I agree completely.

I have a washer reservoir there that precludes it(not a second battery).

That's easy, lay the antenna down inside the cowl. I've heard of several people doing that with little to no loss of reception.

Re: The Enteral Debate

Yeah the RR is nowhere near worth the price. PITA to fit too. NOW, if you have a buddy with a welder and 20 minutes just make one. The hood cap is a $25 Donaldson one and the tubing is easy to get at any parts store. Done. Screw $500. Can buy a real Safari one.

Disclaimer - my RR was used so it was worth it to me

And on the original thread question.

Snorkel first, screw flares

Re: The Enteral Debate

I got a PRG snorkel for Christmas (thank you Santa ) which is like $180. I'm super pumped to install it this spring! I even took my stock flares off in preparation because I didn't like the way they looked. Bushwhackers are on sale right now though in the group buy section...

Re: The Enteral Debate

I'm guessing it's already been answered but if you het the fender mounted snorkel you have to install the snorkel 1st then mock install the fender flare and slowly cut the fender accordingly to contour around the snorkel. Unless you can find one pre-cut but I don't think anyone makes them anymore

Re: The Enteral Debate

More of an infernal debate, I'd say....
TJM snorkel is a cleaner look, imho...

Either both together, or snorkel first...

Cheers
